The idea
I believe AI mostly reinforces the biggest tech platforms rather than disrupting them, since they already have the users, data, distribution and capital to deploy it at scale. So I built this around two layers: mega-platforms as the core ballast, plus mid-size consumer, enterprise and commerce platforms where AI-driven cost savings should hit margins faster. I keep a small cash reserve to add on sharp down days, and I'm holding this for years unless the moat thesis itself breaks.
What it owns
- The largest platforms control user bases, data reserves and compute infrastructure, so artificial intelligence reinforces their competitive advantages rather than weakening them. · MicrosoftIt already owns workplace software and the cloud, so AI folded into both at a price deepens its hold on customers., AlphabetIt holds more proprietary data and distribution than almost anyone, which AI turns into better products that lock users in deeper., Meta PlatformsIt uses AI where it pays fastest: better ad targeting and cheaper content ranking across apps billions already use daily., AmazonIt sits on both sides of the bet: AWS sells the AI buildout to everyone else, and retail uses AI to cut its own costs., AppleIt owns the devices in everyone's pocket, so whoever wins AI likely pays for the shelf space or runs through it.40%
- Mid-size platforms where AI cuts support and operations costs, and the savings hit margins fast. · Uber TechnologiesIts rider-and-driver network is the moat, and AI cuts the costs of running it: support, routing, fraud., SpotifyIt cuts content, discovery and support costs on a subscriber base already paid for, expanding margins as AI-generated audio remains a cost saver rather than a flood devaluing the catalog., NetflixIt has the viewing data and the scale to use AI across production, dubbing and recommendations in ways smaller streamers cannot afford., AirbnbIts supply of homes cannot be replicated by an AI startup, while AI trims its support and search costs., Booking HoldingsIt aggregates travel demand at a scale AI makes cheaper to serve and better to convert into bookings., DoorDashIt runs a local logistics network where AI directly cuts the biggest costs, dispatch and support, so savings hit margins fast.25%
- Software platforms wired into how companies work can sell AI features straight into a captive base. · ServiceNowIt sells AI agents as a paid upgrade on workflows companies already depend on, so AI shows up as higher prices per seat., IntuitIt holds the financial data of millions of small businesses, and AI assistants built on that data are hard for others to copy., SalesforceIts customer-data moat makes its AI agents more useful than generic ones, and the take works if Agentforce turns into real revenue and customers stay rather than rebuilding on raw AI.15%
- Platforms running commerce and payments abroad get the same AI margin lift outside the US. · MercadoLibreIt is the dominant commerce and payments platform in Latin America, with little regional competition and plenty of cost for AI to cut., ShopifyIt sells AI tools to merchants already locked into its checkout and payments, so AI makes the platform stickier and pricier at once., Sea LimitedIts Shopee and fintech arm are the regional platform bet for Southeast Asia, where AI-driven cost cuts matter most because margins started thin.13%
