The idea
I think culture is swinging back toward aspirational marketing after years of body positivity branding, and the brands that leaned hardest into inclusivity are now cheap and ripe for a flip. This basket owns the laggards across athleisure, heritage apparel, casual wear, big-box retail, and beauty who haven't made that pivot yet, betting a new campaign or CEO gets them there. It's spread across five layers with no single name dominating, cash held back to add as flips get announced, and I'm thinking in years, not months.
What it owns
- Beauty companies leaned into inclusive campaigns while cultural momentum shifted back toward glamour and aspiration, positioning them to pivot their messaging without operational change. · Estee LauderIt is prestige glamour at its core and deeply beaten down after leaning into broader inclusive beauty messaging during a sales decline., CotyIts business is celebrity and designer fragrances, which inherently trade on aspiration and glamour, and the stock is cheap., Bath & Body WorksIt is the former sibling of Victoria's Secret, which already proved the flip back to sexy, aspirational marketing works in practice.30%
- Major activewear brands shifted away from performance-focused imagery toward inclusive messaging, creating an opportunity for a return to aspirational sport marketing. · Lululemon AthleticaIt leaned into inclusive sizing and broad accessibility while trading valuations fell, creating room for a reset toward performance-first and aspirational positioning., NikeIt is already resetting toward sport and elite athletes as the primary narrative, aligning with aspirational marketing while the stock remains well below historical highs.28%
- Apparel houses built their brands on provocative, aspirational campaigns decades ago and can revive that proven playbook without building from scratch. · PVH CorpIts Calvin Klein brand sits on decades of provocative, aspirational advertising archives and trades cheaply after years of softer, inclusive campaigns., Gap IncIt built recent years around inclusive sizing and casual comfort positioning while the stock prices in minimal recovery potential from creative leadership shifts.24%
