Robot Parts Makers

The idea
I think robots are going to be everywhere, and instead of betting on who builds the winning machine, I'd rather own the parts every single one of them needs: chips, motors and actuators, sensors, power and connector components, plus the magnets that go into the motors. I've spread the basket across all those layers, leaning on large profitable chip and industrial makers for ballast while keeping smaller stakes in faster-moving bets, with some cash held back. I'm holding this for years and expect to rebalance as the parts picture shifts, not chase quarterly noise.
What it owns
- Robot makers rely on a small set of chip suppliers for the processors and controllers that form the thinking and decision-making layer of their machines. · NvidiaIt makes the chips and software that robot makers use to train and run robot brains, forming the core thinking layer of robotic systems., Analog DevicesIt makes chips that control motors and read sensors precisely, a critical component that every robot joint requires., Texas InstrumentsIt is a large maker of analog and embedded chips with its own factories, providing manufacturing scale and cost advantages in industrial chip markets., NXP SemiconductorsIt makes embedded processors and microcontrollers that run machines at the edge, with designs shared across robotics and automotive applications., STMicroelectronicsIt makes microcontrollers, motion sensors and power chips that sit inside a wide range of industrial machines and robots., AmbarellaIt makes low-power chips that process camera images on the device itself, enabling robots to see and make decisions without sending data elsewhere.28%
- Robot joints and arms depend on precision bearings, gears and motors made by only a handful of manufacturers with the skill and scale to deliver at required quality. · Regal RexnordIt makes the motors, gearing and actuators that move robot joints, sitting at the center of the robotics and automation trend., TimkenIt makes precision bearings and gear drives that require decades of manufacturing expertise, essential parts for robot arms and joints., Parker HannifinIt is a large, profitable maker of motion and control systems that sells actuators and fluid power into factories and machines at reliable scale., RBC BearingsIt makes specialty bearings that are difficult to replicate and command high margins, creating a strong manufacturing moat in precision motion., AllientIt makes precision motors, drives and motion controls for smaller applications, potentially capturing demand from robotics and automation in smaller suppliers.27%
- Robots need cameras, lidar and sensors to perceive their environment and perform tasks, creating steady demand for industrial-grade vision and sensing suppliers. · TE ConnectivityIt makes sensors and connectors that link robot systems together, sold at scale into industrial and automotive markets., Sony GroupIt is the largest maker of camera image sensors, which form the basis of most robot vision systems across industrial applications., CognexIt sells machine vision systems that give factory robots the ability to see and inspect what they handle and move., Teledyne TechnologiesIt makes industrial cameras and thermal imaging for machines that operate in harsh conditions, serving automation and robotics markets., Hesai GroupIt is one of the largest lidar makers by volume, betting that lidar becomes a standard sensing technology as robot adoption and costs shift., OusterIt makes digital lidar designed specifically for robots, drones and industrial machines that need three-dimensional vision.21%
- Battery-powered robots need efficient power conversion and rugged connectors to move power and signals throughout their bodies in tight spaces. · AmphenolIt is the largest connector and cable maker, operating with strong manufacturing discipline and supplying the countless connection points inside robots., Monolithic Power SystemsIt makes compact power chips that efficiently deliver power to processors and motors, critical in robots where space is limited., VicorIt makes very dense power modules useful for robots that need to pack substantial power into a small physical footprint.11%
- Robot motors run on rare-earth magnets, and limited US production capacity creates a supply constraint outside China. · MP MaterialsIt is the primary US source of rare-earth magnets used inside robot motors, positioning itself as a domestic alternative to Chinese supply.4%
