The idea
I believe persistent deficits and money printing will keep debasing currency, so I want exposure to metals themselves, not the companies that mine them. Gold anchors the basket at the largest weight, silver adds torque since it tends to move harder, and platinum and palladium round out the overlooked corner of the trade after years out of favor. I keep a cash reserve to buy into dips, avoid single-name bets, and plan to hold for years unless the inflation and debasement thesis itself breaks down.
What it owns
- Gold has anchored money through centuries of currency debasement and serves as the core holding when deficits and inflation erode purchasing power. · iShares Gold TrustIt holds physical gold bullion, providing direct exposure to the asset that cannot be printed when central banks debase currency., SPDR Gold SharesIt holds physical gold and trades as the largest and most liquid gold fund, betting that persistent inflation and structural deficits sustain demand for metal that cannot be debased by central banks.40%
- Silver typically moves with greater amplitude than gold during metal rallies, amplifying exposure to the same macro drivers. · iShares Silver TrustIt holds physical silver, which historically moves harder than gold when metals rally, amplifying gains if inflation stays above expectations.18%
- Platinum and palladium have lagged gold for years and trade cheaply, positioning them to close the gap if a long inflation cycle pulls capital into all precious metals. · abrdn Physical Platinum Shares ETFIt holds physical platinum, which has traded out of favor and cheaply relative to gold, positioning for upside if a broad metals rally pulls capital into laggard metals., abrdn Physical Palladium Shares ETFIt holds physical palladium, priced well below where a sustained inflation and currency debasement cycle would likely take it if money broadens beyond gold.18%
- A single fund holding all four precious metals ensures the take benefits if leadership shifts among gold, silver, platinum and palladium during a sustained debasement cycle. · abrdn Physical Precious Metals Basket Shares ETFIt holds a basket of all four precious metals in one fund, smoothing exposure across gold, silver, platinum and palladium as money seeks assets that cannot be printed.12%
