The idea
I believe that as frontier AI gets smarter and cheaper, value shifts away from the model itself and toward companies owning proprietary, constantly refreshed data embedded in professional workflows where accuracy and accountability matter. This take owns names across risk and insurance data, engineering sign-off, clinical research, security telemetry, and legal and tax workflows, weighted toward those with the strongest data feedback loops and switching costs.
What it owns
- Insurers, lenders and regulators rely on this data to price risk and answer for their decisions, and customers keep adding to it. · Verisk AnalyticsInsurers pour their own claims and policy data into its platform and get back the risk models they price with and file with regulators, so the data gets better as the industry uses it., S&P GlobalWhat markets pay for is the accountable stamp of its ratings and benchmarks, which get written into contracts, fund mandates and regulation., Moody'sIts ratings carry regulatory weight, and its risk and compliance data feeds the checks banks run on customers and counterparties., Guidewire SoftwareIt is the core system insurers run policies, billing and claims on, where switching takes years and the claims history lives in its cloud.24%
- Chips, buildings and infrastructure get designed and verified inside these tools, and a mistake costs too much to trust an unchecked answer. · SynopsysA chip doesn't get made until it passes sign-off in its tools, and foundries and chip designers trust those results as complexity and design frequency both grow., Cadence Design SystemsIts verification and simulation tools are where chip designers prove a design works before spending millions to make it, and switching costs stay high., Bentley SystemsIts software holds the engineering models for roads, bridges, rail and utilities, work that carries an engineer's stamp and legal liability., PTC Inc.Its design and lifecycle software is the official record of what manufacturers build and change, which matters for compliance and recalls.23%
- Drug development requires regulated, auditable workflows and patient data that general artificial intelligence cannot recreate from scratch. · Veeva SystemsDrug makers run regulated clinical, quality and sales work in its platform, where every record needs an audit trail an inspector can check and data quality compounds as pharma standardizes on it., IQVIA HoldingsIt owns continuously refreshed prescription, patient and trial data and runs trials for drug makers, a setting where data provenance and proprietary refresh matter most., Tempus AIIt builds a clinical and genomic data library from the tests doctors order, and that data feeds back into tools oncologists use to choose treatments.17%
- These platforms learn from every attack their customers see, so more capable artificial intelligence makes their data more powerful rather than replacing it. · CrowdStrikeIt sees attack data from a huge number of devices, and that data trains its detection so it improves with use as threats grow more artificial intelligence driven., Palo Alto NetworksIt sits across companies' networks, cloud and security operations so it gathers data across many layers and is hard to rip out as customers consolidate onto its platform., ZscalerIt routes company traffic through its own cloud so it sees threats at enormous scale and gets better as volume grows and geographic reach expands.15%
- Legal, tax and government work needs sources with clear provenance and outcomes someone answers for, which is what these workflows provide. · Thomson ReutersIt is held for citable authority, provenance and embedded legal and tax workflows that professionals need to cite and sign off on inside the platform., RELXIt is held for its risk and compliance tools built on contributed fraud and identity data, and for embedded legal workflow that banks and insurers keep relying on., Tyler TechnologiesIt runs courts, tax collection and public records for local governments, where records must be accurate and accountable and systems rarely get replaced.15%
