The idea
I believe personal robots go mainstream over the next 15 years, but the money gets made by whoever controls what every robot needs, not whoever builds the winning one. So this basket skips robot makers entirely and instead owns precision motion parts, rare earth refining and magnet makers, power and metals, and sensing components, the bottlenecks that can't be solved quickly just by demanding more supply. I hold some cash on the side and spread bets across many names rather than leaning on one company.
What it owns
- Every joint needs motors, gears, screws and bearings that take years to scale, so supply stays tight as robot volumes grow. · AMETEKIt makes precision motors that major robot makers buy rather than build in house, anchoring the motion supply constraint., Regal RexnordIt sells motors and motion control to every industrial customer, so it collects on robot demand regardless of which maker wins., TimkenIt makes precision bearings at scale for every rotating joint in every robot, where capacity can't keep pace with demand growth., RBC BearingsIt manufactures the highest-precision bearings that robot joints need, where new capacity takes years to build out., MoogIt builds high-end actuators for humanoid robots where the engineering skill and manufacturing capacity are scarce., AllientIt focuses on small precision motors for humanoid arms and hands, where dozens of units per robot create concentrated demand.31%
- Robots require rare earth magnets, but the constraint is refining capacity outside China, not the ore itself. · MP MaterialsIt runs the full chain from mine to separated oxides to finished magnets, the only US company controlling rare earth refining., USA Rare EarthIt is building a US magnet production facility to close the domestic shortage as robot demand accelerates., Energy FuelsIt is expanding rare earth separation capacity in the US, the processing step that has been China's durable advantage., Ramaco ResourcesIt holds a domestic rare earth deposit in Wyoming that could supply the ore for US refining and magnet production.23%
- Battery energy density, copper, and lithium are the structural supply constraints that robot growth will stress. · AlbemarleIt is one of the largest lithium producers, supplying the metal that every robot battery needs., Freeport-McMoRanIt is the primary listed way to own copper supply, the metal in every motor winding and cable that takes a decade to expand., EnerSysIt builds industrial batteries for machines that already power warehouse robots and automated equipment all day., Amprius TechnologiesIt makes silicon-anode cells with the highest energy density available, enabling robots to run a full shift on one charge.14%
- Robots need force sensors and vision systems to operate, creating a bottleneck separate from mechanical parts. · NovantaIt supplies photonics and precision subsystems that go directly into robots and automated machines., Sensata TechnologiesIt makes force and position sensors at scale, the touch-sensing components that every robot needs in large numbers., OusterIt sells lidar sensors to machines that move through the world, the perception technology robots need for navigation.12%
- Specialty alloys and magnetic materials are the chemical step between ore and a working motor. · Carpenter TechnologyIt supplies the soft magnetic alloys that go into high-performance motors where specialty materials stay scarce., MaterionIt supplies specialty metals and engineered materials for sensors, connectors, and motors where demand outpaces supply.10%
