Fragile Banks, Antifragile Rails

The idea
I think the banking system is more fragile than it looks, while the rails beyond it are maturing fast. One side owns what banks buy under pressure: security, identity verification, recovery, and fraud detection. The other owns the infrastructure and assets benefiting from cash and activity migrating toward regulated digital rails, weighted toward neutral infrastructure over single issuers. I avoid concentrated single-name bets, keep a cash reserve to add during fear, and hold with a multi-year horizon. I would rethink this if deposits stay sticky and digital rails lose regulatory momentum.
What it owns
- Direct holdings that gain value if trust in traditional banking erodes and capital seeks alternatives outside the system. · EthereumServes as the base settlement layer for most regulated stablecoins, gaining value as digital-asset rails gain legal standing and volume., BitcoinFunctions as the escape hatch asset that people reach for when accounts freeze or trust in banking systems cracks., SolanaCaptures volume if payments and stablecoins move on-chain at scale, as a faster and cheaper chain for transaction settlement.21%
- Neutral infrastructure and regulated on-ramps that earn fees as banks tokenize and institutions move value onto blockchain settlement layers. · Coinbase GlobalActs as the regulated gateway between bank money and blockchain rails, earning fees on every institutional crossing between systems., ChainlinkProvides the neutral plumbing connecting bank systems to blockchains, earning regardless of which token wins among competing stablecoins., Circle Internet GroupIssues the regulated dollars that migrate from banks onto chain rails, growing if legal standing for stablecoins expands.20%
- Security platforms that become non-negotiable spending after a financial incident forces banks to upgrade defenses. · CrowdStrike HoldingsBecomes the first call for breach cleanup and the opening line item in expanded security budgets banks activate after incidents., Palo Alto NetworksBecomes the consolidated security platform that financial firms standardize onto when defense spending stops being optional., CloudflareDistinguishes automated agents from humans at the network edge, gaining urgency as agents begin sweeping deposits and probing bank systems., ZscalerSells the assume-nothing access model that banks adopt once breaches prove the perimeter defense failed, moving zero-trust to requirement.18%
- Systems that verify real humans behind accounts as synthetic media and automated agents grow more convincing and threatening to banking security. · OktaOperates the login layer that banks rebuild around after breaches expose identity as the critical weak point in their defenses., SailPointControls access rights inside banks to the exact level regulators demand after data breaches, keeping identity governance as mandatory spending., Mitek SystemsVerifies documents and faces at account opening, blocking the deepfakes and synthetic identities that attack first in fraud attacks., CLEAR SecureBecomes the paid service for proving a real person exists as automated agents and deepfakes blur the line between human and synthetic.16%
- Tools for fast restoration and fraud detection that banks purchase without negotiation after incidents expose recovery gaps. · RubrikProvides the recovery speed that banks buy after attacks prove restoration time is survival, becoming a board-level purchase priority., Commvault SystemsProvides backup and recovery that banks expand after each incident, growing recovery budgets with every breach headline., Fair IsaacRuns fraud scoring inside nearly every bank, so rising fraud attempts increase reliance on its detection regardless of broader conditions.10%
- Digital platforms that capture household cash flowing out of traditional banks toward higher yields and automated management. · SoFi TechnologiesCaptures the deposit migration as automated tools sweep cash from low-yield accounts into high-yield digital banking platforms.3%
