The idea
I believe Europe is in the early innings of a long air conditioning catch-up, still under a quarter of households cooled versus 90% in the US, with 2026 sales data showing that gap closing fast. Since the biggest sellers aren't US-listed, I express it through holdable equipment makers like Carrier, Johnson Controls, and Trane, plus the grid gear and summer-peak power names and heat pump chipmakers that benefit as units multiply.
What it owns
- The companies directly selling air conditioners and heat pumps into Europe, where policy support and rising temperatures are driving adoption from residential to commercial buildings. · Carrier GlobalIt owns Viessmann, Europe's largest residential climate company, and stands to benefit as split-system heat pumps replace portable units across the continent., Johnson ControlsIt sells commercial cooling systems across Europe's offices, stores, and public buildings, which adopt air conditioning ahead of households as summers grow hotter., Trane TechnologiesIt serves European commercial HVAC markets through its EMEA segment, capturing growth as buildings across the region add cooling capacity for hotter summers., Modine ManufacturingIt makes coils and heat exchangers inside AC units and heat pumps, earning volume-based revenue as European HVAC penetration rises toward one hundred million installed units.45%
- Tens of millions of new AC units turn hot afternoons into peak electricity events, requiring grid upgrades, electrical infrastructure, and network spending across Europe. · EatonIt supplies electrical panels, transformers, and protection gear that homes and buildings need when adding cooling load, benefiting from Europe's residential and commercial AC expansion., GE VernovaIt builds grid equipment that European utilities need as summer cooling demand creates a new seasonal peak in electrical load., National GridIt owns the UK electrical grid, where cooling adoption is lowest among major markets and summer peak demand will rise sharply as AC penetration increases., nVent ElectricIt supplies electrical protection and enclosure equipment between new cooling load and the grid, with European exposure and recent acquisition capacity to handle AC-driven infrastructure spend.29%
- Every split unit and heat pump sold needs inverter and power chips, a component layer that grows with unit volume regardless of which manufacturer wins market share. · STMicroelectronicsIt supplies the inverter and power chips that every split-system heat pump requires, capturing value from the unit volume upgrade across European HVAC manufacturers.12%
