The idea
I believe battery storage becomes a basic part of homes and the grid over the next decade, the same way solar panels and AC units did. This take spreads that bet across grid infrastructure, home battery makers, the materials storage depends on, and smaller stakes in next-generation cell technology, rather than picking one winner. It leans on large, established names for the core of the portfolio while keeping smaller, more speculative slices for the bets that could define the next generation, and holds some cash aside to add on pullbacks.
What it owns
- Installing millions of home batteries requires new electrical equipment, grid upgrades, and utility infrastructure to connect them all. · Eaton CorporationIt manufactures the electrical panels and switchgear that connect distributed batteries to homes and the grid at utility scale., GE VernovaIt builds the grid hardware and power electronics that utilities need to absorb millions of distributed and utility-scale battery systems., Quanta ServicesIt provides the installation and upgrade crews that physically wire batteries into homes and connect them to utility infrastructure., NextEra EnergyAs a major utility deploying battery storage at scale, it profits from the storage shift regardless of which battery manufacturer leads the market., ItronIt builds smart meters and software that let utilities monitor and control millions of home batteries, essential infrastructure for grid management at scale.25%
- Companies that design and sell the battery systems homeowners install to store power from solar panels or the grid. · Tesla, Inc.Its Powerwall is the most recognized home battery brand, so widespread adoption of residential storage would drive significant sales volume., Enphase EnergyIt pairs modular batteries with its inverters that convert solar power into usable household electricity, making it a natural choice for installers adding storage., Generac HoldingsIt is transitioning its existing customer base of home backup power users from gas generators to battery storage systems., SolarEdge TechnologiesIt pairs batteries with its solar inverters, so homeowners adding storage to existing solar installations become a built-in customer base.24%
- Lithium and copper are essential to every battery, so miners profit regardless of which manufacturer or technology wins the market. · AlbemarleAs a top global lithium producer, it supplies a material essential to every battery system, insulating it from competition between specific battery makers., Freeport-McMoRanIt mines copper, which is needed in large quantities to wire millions of batteries into homes and connect them across the grid., Sociedad Química y Minera de ChileIt extracts lithium from low-cost Chilean brine, positioning it to capture share as battery demand scales to residential ubiquity., Lithium AmericasIt represents a bet on US-produced lithium, which gains value if battery adoption accelerates and supply chains localize domestically.18%
- Utilities are deploying large battery systems at the grid level faster than home batteries are being installed in houses. · Fluence EnergyIt designs and deploys utility-scale battery systems, which are the industrial counterpart to the residential batteries driving the shift., Eos Energy EnterprisesIts zinc batteries offer potential cost advantages for long-duration grid storage once batteries become widespread and nighttime storage is critical.8%
- Emerging battery chemistries like solid-state and silicon-anode cells could store more energy in smaller packages if they reach production. · QuantumScapeIt is developing solid-state cells that pack more energy into smaller packages, representing a potential next-generation leap if manufacturing scales during the decade., EnovixIt manufactures silicon-anode cells that store more charge than conventional lithium designs, but only if it achieves commercial production volume., Amprius TechnologiesIt produces high-density cells that offer step increases in storage per unit of weight, which a battery-everywhere world would reward with higher volumes.8%
- A diversified fund holding the entire battery supply chain smooths out individual company misses and captures overall sector growth. · Global X Lithium & Battery Tech ETFThe fund holds miners, processors, and cell makers across the battery supply chain, capturing growth whether lithium or alternative materials dominate.7%
