Decade Dollar Debasement Basket

The idea
I believe persistent deficits will slowly erode what the dollar can buy, so I want to own things that can't be printed. This basket spreads that bet across gold and royalty companies, energy producers and pipelines, farmland and timber, and copper miners, leaning toward businesses that collect steady cash flows rather than just betting on spot prices. I hold a small cash reserve to add if real assets dip during a strong stretch for the dollar, and I'm building this to sit through years of slow grind, not a quick move.
What it owns
- Gold cannot be printed, and royalty companies collect a portion of mine output without bearing the cost of extraction. · SPDR Gold SharesIt tracks the price of gold, the classic asset that cannot be printed, and rises in dollar terms if the currency loses value over the decade., Wheaton Precious MetalsIt buys silver and gold from miners at fixed prices, so rising metal prices flow almost directly to its cash flow as the dollar weakens., Franco-NevadaIt collects royalty cuts from gold production without paying to operate mines, making it a toll-taker rather than a price bet., Royal GoldIt collects royalty checks tied to mine output rather than mine costs, keeping profit tied to metal prices as the dollar debases., VanEck Gold Miners ETFIt holds gold miners whose profits amplify when gold prices rise, since operating leverage works in their favor as the metal climbs.24%
- Oil and gas reprice upward when the dollar weakens, and pipelines charge inflation-linked tolls that pay throughout the period. · Exxon MobilIt owns oil and gas reserves that become more valuable in dollar terms as the currency weakens, plus refining and chemicals operations that generate cash., Williams CompaniesIt operates pipelines that move a large share of US natural gas on fee-based tolls that reprice with inflation, expanded recently through acquisition., Canadian Natural ResourcesIt holds decades of low-decline oil reserves that stay profitable at prevailing prices, providing cash flow as an unprintable energy asset., Kinder MorganIt charges tolls to move natural gas regardless of price, with many contracts stepping up with inflation, so debasement lifts revenue directly., EnbridgeIts pipeline contracts have explicit inflation escalators, so the dividend grows as the dollar shrinks, the purest toll-taker expression.22%
- Base metals priced in dollars globally rise mechanically when the dollar weakens, and electrification demand supports prices regardless of currency moves. · Freeport-McMoRanIt is one of the world's largest copper producers, and copper demand stays firm for grids and electrification independent of dollar moves., Rio TintoIt mines iron ore, copper, and aluminum across the globe, spreading the hard-commodity bet so no single metal determines the outcome., Southern CopperIt mines copper at low cost and pays most profits as dividends, generating cash flow while the debasement story unfolds., BHP GroupIt is a diversified mining giant heavy in iron ore and copper with real reserves at global scale, paired with other commodity giants.17%
- Farmland, timberland, and royalty acreage are slow, hard assets that cannot be printed and collect rent while the dollar loses purchasing power. · WeyerhaeuserIt owns millions of acres of timberland that cannot be printed and generate cash through lumber sales while land values track inflation., RayonierIt owns timberland in the US South and New Zealand that grows wood while generating cash, with value anchored to real assets rather than currency., Texas Pacific LandIt owns Permian land outright and collects oil royalties and water fees with minimal costs, functioning as a pure toll on real assets., Gladstone LandIt owns farms and collects rent from tenant farmers, providing food-producing land that reprices with inflation while generating income.17%
- Utilities-like infrastructure and commodity holdings with inflation-linked contracts let revenue grow as the dollar debases. · Brookfield Infrastructure PartnersIt owns ports, pipelines, rails, and towers with contracts that adjust upward with inflation, so debasement directly raises revenue., Invesco DB Commodity Index FundIt holds commodity futures across oil, metals, and grains, letting the basket catch inflation showing up in raw materials broadly., CamecoIt supplies uranium for nuclear power, an energy source the world needs regardless of the dollar where new supply is genuinely hard to add.12%
