The idea
I believe the world eventually has to confront climate change, and money gets spent on it either way, so I split this evenly between fixing it and living with it. One half owns the grid, copper, nuclear and storage behind any energy transition, skipping the solar and EV makers stuck fighting on price. The other half owns water systems, cooling, storm resilience and heat-tolerant crops, which get funded even if emissions cuts stall. It is a long-run holding in established companies with a small cash buffer, though I know the energy side also rides on AI power demand.
What it owns
- Every clean power plan requires more transmission lines, transformers and copper wire, regardless of which technology wins. · Eaton CorporationIt makes switchgear, transformers and power management equipment that all clean electricity must pass through., Quanta ServicesIt supplies the crews that build and rebuild power lines and substations, turning grid spending into direct construction work., Freeport-McMoRanIt is one of the world's largest copper miners, and electrifying grids, heat pumps and batteries requires enormous amounts of copper., GE VernovaIt builds gas and wind turbines plus the grid equipment that connects new power to homes and businesses., Southern CopperIt owns some of the largest copper reserves in the world, critical for a long-term bet on copper demand from electrification., HubbellIt sells the hardware utilities attach to poles, lines and substations, a steady way to own grid buildout.28%
- More extreme heat and storms increase demand for cooling systems, backup power and infrastructure rebuilding. · Trane TechnologiesIt makes efficient cooling systems and heat pumps, getting paid both when buildings cut energy use and when summers get hotter., AECOMIt designs flood walls, water systems and other infrastructure governments build to protect against rising seas and storms., Carrier GlobalIt sells air conditioning and heat pumps for homes and buildings, a direct way to own growing cooling demand., GeneracIt makes backup generators that people buy after storms and heat waves knock out power, so worse weather means more buyers., Tetra TechIt advises governments and companies on water, flooding and climate resilience planning, the consulting that precedes construction.20%
- Hotter weather drives more droughts and floods, making pipes, pumps and treatment systems essential infrastructure spending. · XylemIt makes the pumps, treatment systems and smart meters that cities need as droughts and floods strain water infrastructure., American Water WorksIt is the largest United States water utility and earns a return on pipes and plants it rebuilds as weather grows harsher., Watts Water TechnologiesIt makes valves and controls that manage water flow and conservation in buildings, which matters more as water grows scarcer., VeraltoIt tests and treats water to make it safe to drink, a need that grows as heat, drought and floods affect water quality.18%
- Nuclear, renewables and batteries are the power sources replacing fossil fuels in the energy transition. · Constellation EnergyIt runs the largest nuclear fleet in the United States, providing carbon-free power that runs around the clock., NextEra EnergyIt is one of the biggest builders of wind, solar and battery projects in the United States, paired with a regulated utility for steadier earnings., CamecoIt mines and processes uranium, the fuel every nuclear plant needs, so more reactors running means more business., Fluence EnergyIt builds giant batteries that store wind and solar power when needed, making a clean grid reliable.17%
- Farms must keep producing through heat and drought, which rewards better seeds and precision equipment. · CortevaIt develops seeds bred to handle heat and drought, which farmers need more as growing conditions get harsher., Deere & CompanyIts precision farming equipment helps farmers produce more crop from less water and fuel as weather becomes less predictable.9%
