The Agent Interface Decade

The idea
I believe the next decade of AI won't be won by the smartest model, but by whoever owns the interface people wear and talk to every day. So this leans into Meta as the closest thing to that interface, backed by the supply chain making the displays, optics, silicon, and audio that get paid no matter whose glasses win. I hedge that bet with the rival contenders who could still take the body instead, and add the ad and payment rails that profit once agents start choosing and buying for us.
What it owns
- The displays, optics, chips and microphones inside every pair of smart glasses get paid regardless of whose logo is on the frame. · Taiwan SemiconductorWhichever brand of glasses wins the interface, its custom low-power silicon almost certainly gets made here., NVIDIAIt supplies the compute infrastructure that processes the constant inference requests from agent interfaces, so agent adoption and usage growth drive its demand., CorningSmart glasses need optical-grade glass and waveguides to paint the agent's display onto the lens, and it is the dominant supplier., BroadcomWhen platform companies design their own agent chips, it is the supplier they hire to build them and link glasses to phones., QualcommIts chips already power Meta's glasses and most Android XR devices coming, so it collects from nearly every attempt to put an agent on the body., CoherentIt makes the lasers and optics that AR displays depend on, a bottleneck component bought by whichever interface owner ships glasses., Himax TechnologiesIt builds the display drivers and microdisplays already inside early AR devices, making it a direct bet on glasses shipping in volume., Cirrus LogicIt makes the audio chips that process what the agent hears and says, putting it in the supply chain whether Apple or Meta wins., KnowlesAn agent that hears requires always-on microphones that sip power, and it is the dominant supplier of exactly those., Universal DisplayIt licenses the OLED materials behind microOLED, a leading candidate for screens inside AR glasses.40%
- Apple, Google, Amazon and Snap each own enough of attention, commerce or hardware to win the interface if the leading bet falters. · AlphabetIt could own the interface through Gemini and Android XR, serving every platform except Apple and Meta., AppleIt already owns hardware on billions of bodies and could win the agent interface by default without building anything new., AmazonIt runs a voice agent in hundreds of millions of homes and owns the buying rail behind it, so it could win the commerce loop without glasses., SnapIt has spent a decade on glasses and AR, making it a concentrated bet on the category; it moves far on little if consumer AR breaks through.21%
- Meta is the only company shipping glasses on billions of bodies while running the ad machine that turns agent choices into revenue. · Meta PlatformsIt holds all three pieces at once: glasses on the body, billions of people's daily attention, and an ad business that monetizes agent choices.18%
- When agents act and buy for people, the money moves through ads, checkout and payments, and those rails collect a toll either way. · VisaWhen agents start choosing and buying for people, the money still moves over card rails, and it collects a toll on every transaction., ShopifyFor an agent to buy on behalf of its owner, merchants need checkout that machines can use, and it is building those rails across millions of stores., The Trade DeskIf agent choices get monetized with ads outside the big platforms' walls, it is the open-market buyer of that inventory.13%
