The idea
I believe spending by wealthy travelers keeps rising regardless of price, so I built a basket that owns the whole high-end ecosystem rather than betting on one layer: luxury hotel brands, premium cruise lines, private jet makers, destination casinos, and the booking platforms that take a fee across it all. The bulk sits in large, steady operators, with smaller stakes in punchier names, and I keep a modest cash reserve to add on dips. I'd rethink this if wealthy consumers actually started pulling back on travel spending.
What it owns
- The big hotel brands own the luxury flags where climbing wealthy demand shows up as higher room rates and occupancy. · Hyatt HotelsIt has more of its business in luxury brands than any other big hotel chain, so wealthy demand for travel shows up first in its results., Hilton WorldwideIts Waldorf Astoria and Conrad hotels are where price-insensitive travelers stay, and the fee-based model turns their spending into steady profit., Marriott InternationalIt runs the deepest luxury portfolio anywhere with Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis and Edition, collecting fees on every stay., InterContinental Hotels GroupIts Six Senses and InterContinental luxury brands are fast-growing and small enough to move the needle on wealthy traveler demand., Vail ResortsIt owns the mountains rich families ski, and the Epic Pass lets it raise prices on people who do not check them.29%
- Booking platforms and premium airline cabins capture a fee or margin on every high-end trip, so they win regardless of which hotel or airline the wealthy traveler picks. · Booking HoldingsIt clips a fee on trips across the whole ecosystem, so it wins whichever hotel or destination the wealthy traveler picks., AirbnbIts fastest-growing business is luxury villas and long premium stays, where wealthy travelers spend in ways hotels do not capture., Delta Air LinesIt makes more of its money from premium cabins and loyalty than any US airline, exactly the layer where people pay up to fly comfortably., United AirlinesIts Polaris business cabins dominate long-haul international routes, where luxury travel demand shows up first.20%
- Luxury cruise lines sell out years ahead when wealthy travelers keep booking at premium fares. · Royal Caribbean GroupIt owns Silversea and Celebrity, the premium end of the biggest cruise operator, where luxury brands book out further ahead at higher prices., Viking HoldingsIt is the closest thing to a pure play on wealthy travelers at sea, with no casinos and no kids, where high fares matter for growth., Norwegian Cruise Line HoldingsIts Regent and Oceania brands serve the richest cruise passengers, and rising luxury demand matters more because the company carries higher debt than peers.19%
- Integrated resorts in Vegas, Macao and Singapore capture the highest-spending travelers on the ground. · Las Vegas SandsIt owns Marina Bay Sands and the Macao resorts where wealthy Asian travelers spend big on gaming and rooms., Wynn ResortsIt is built for high rollers in Vegas, Macao and soon the UAE, where people do not check prices on premium gaming and rooms., MGM Resorts InternationalIt owns the luxury end of the Vegas Strip with Bellagio, Aria and the Cosmopolitan, where high-end visitors spend on rooms, tables and shows.16%
- Private jet makers are the least crowded way to own wealthy travelers flying more. · General DynamicsIts Gulfstream division builds the jet the very top of the wealth pyramid buys, with a multi-year order backlog., TextronIts Cessna Citation line is the workhorse of private aviation, the entry point for buyers moving up from first class.10%
