The idea
I believe hyperscaler data center spending keeps climbing toward a trillion a year, but the real bottleneck is physical: moving data with light and getting power and cooling into the building. So this owns both chokepoints, weighted toward optics for its upside since parts are scarce and prices rise with each new generation, with power and cooling as the steadier half backed by years of signed orders. I keep a small cash buffer to add on dips, since both halves lean on the same hyperscaler budgets. If that capex spending gets cut, I would rethink the whole idea.
What it owns
- Every new AI data center needs grid power, electrical gear and liquid cooling, and these companies have years of signed orders to deliver. · Quanta Services, Inc.It builds the power lines and grid hookups that connect new data centers to electricity, which is often the slowest step in getting one running., Vertiv Holdings CoIt is the closest thing to a pure cooling and power play for AI data centers, with a two-point-three megawatt coolant unit that was the first to qualify as Nvidia DSX Ready., GE Vernova Inc.It builds the gas turbines and grid equipment that make new power for data centers, with a backlog hitting record levels and improving margins., Comfort Systems USA, Inc.It installs mechanical and electrical systems inside data centers, with technology customers representing a growing share of its revenue as hyperscalers expand capacity., Eaton Corporation plcIt sells the electrical gear that gets power into and around a data center, and recently bought Boyd Thermal to add cooling capability.52%
- AI data centers move huge amounts of data between chips using light, and the lasers, transceivers, fiber and switches that do it are in short supply. · Ciena CorporationIt sells the gear that links data centers to each other over fiber, which matters more as AI training spreads across multiple buildings., Coherent Corp.It holds a significant share of the global transceiver market, positioning it to benefit as data centers shift to faster optical links to handle artificial intelligence workloads., Lumentum Holdings Inc.It makes the lasers inside the optical links that move data between AI chips, which is the scarce component needed for data center connectivity., Arista Networks, Inc.It makes the network switches that tie thousands of AI chips together, and those switches are what the optical parts plug into., Corning IncorporatedIt supplies the optical fiber that every light-based data center link runs on, making it the most basic piece of the optics infrastructure.40%
- This bucket groups positions that provide enabling infrastructure or complementary exposure to the artificial intelligence and optical technology themes. · It makes connectivity chips for optical data transmission, joining a small group of suppliers enabling next-generation infrastructure alongside laser and fiber companies.5%
