The idea
I believe physical AI, robots actually doing work in surgery, warehouses, factories and on the road, is the next leg of the AI trade, and it all runs on compute that NVIDIA dominates. So this basket pairs the chip layer with companies deploying robots today, adds a few smaller autonomy bets, and rounds out with broad robotics funds to catch winners I can't pick individually. No single name is more than about a seventh of the basket, and I keep a small cash buffer. I'd rethink this if the deployment data stalls or if the chip layer stops leading.
What it owns
- Three ETFs that spread the bet across dozens of robotics companies worldwide, including ones this basket cannot hold directly. · ARK Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETFThis fund focuses on autonomous technology and robotics picks, capturing self-driving, drones and commercial robotics themes., Global X Robotics & AI ETFThis fund holds physical AI and robotics winners globally, including Japanese and European robot makers not available individually., ROBO Global Robotics & Automation ETFThis fund spreads exposure across dozens of automation companies worldwide, capturing winners across industries and geographies.27%
- Companies already making money by putting robots into surgery, warehouses and factories. · Intuitive SurgicalIt operates the dominant surgical robot system with hospitals locked into its ecosystem and growing procedure counts., SymboticIt automates distribution centers for major retailers, with continued expansion needed to validate the warehouse robotics premise., Rockwell AutomationIt supplies automation equipment to factory floors and benefits from increased manufacturing investment in physical AI buildout.26%
- Every robot needs chips to think with, and these companies sell the compute and the machines that test it. · NVIDIA CorporationIt supplies the compute that dominates across operating room robots, warehouse bots and autonomous vehicles in this take., TeradyneIt tests chips for AI systems and owns a collaborative robot arm company, touching both the compute layer and factory automation.22%
- Higher-risk bets on self-driving cars, delivery bots and service robots that pay off significantly if autonomy arrives. · TeslaIt is developing humanoid robotics and autonomous driving technology as core businesses beyond vehicle sales., Serve RoboticsIt operates small delivery robots on sidewalks and relies on growing platform partnerships and fleet expansion., Richtech RoboticsIt deploys service robots into hotels and restaurants, with growth dependent on signing commercial deals and reaching meaningful revenue.17%
