The idea
I believe AI's next phase gets bounded by physical limits, not model breakthroughs, and the fix is decentralization. As cheap local inference pulls compute to the edge, power has to be sourced on-site instead of through strained central grids, so I built this around three layers: edge silicon, the networks and gear wiring thousands of smaller sites, and distributed energy plus edge real estate to house it all. I'm concentrated since I think this bites within two years, with 10% cash held back to add on dips as the thesis plays out.
What it owns
- Cheap, efficient inference chips make running AI locally possible at all. · BroadcomIt builds custom chips tuned for efficient inference rather than giant general-purpose processors., QualcommIts chips already run AI on phones and PCs without touching a data center., Arm HoldingsIts low-power architecture is built into nearly every edge device, so distributed compute spreads its royalties across thousands of sites., Marvell TechnologyIt makes custom chips and interconnect that get busier when compute breaks into thousands of local nodes instead of a few campuses., Advanced Micro DevicesIt is the price challenger making inference cheap enough to run everywhere, which is the trigger for compute moving to the edge.32%
- Thousands of smaller sites need networking, optical links, and power and cooling equipment to come online. · Vertiv HoldingsIt sells the power and cooling equipment every compute site needs, and outfitting thousands of small sites means more units than a few mega-campuses., Arista NetworksIt sells networking gear that connects AI sites, and many smaller sites need more networking per unit of compute than a few central campuses., CienaIt makes the optical links that stitch distributed sites into one network, an early sign of whether decentralization is actually happening., Akamai TechnologiesIt already runs compute at thousands of edge locations, the closest thing to compute as a local utility trading today.23%
- On-site and local power lets compute skip grid backlogs and centralized energy pricing. · Bloom EnergyIts fuel cells put power generation on-site, bypassing strained grids and their queues., Enphase EnergyIt makes hardware that turns rooftops and small sites into their own power plants, the building block of cooperative local energy., First SolarIt supplies panels for local power built near where it is used instead of through strained transmission lines., HA Sustainable InfrastructureIt finances distributed and community energy projects, so it gets paid when local power models actually get built.21%
- Interconnection hubs and tower sites are where edge compute physically lives. · EquinixIt owns the interconnection points where local compute, networks, and clouds meet, and decentralized systems need more meeting points., American TowerIts existing tower footprint provides ready-made real estate positioned close to end users, reducing latency for edge compute workloads., Digital RealtyIt runs metro data centers, the middle layer where local inference for a city naturally lives between giant campuses and devices.14%
