Security for a Spread-Out Internet

The idea
I believe security has to follow the internet itself, spreading out to every user, device and connection instead of guarding one central office door. This basket owns four layers working together: edge networks filtering traffic close to users, zero-trust access platforms, identity and endpoint security, and companies protecting the growing swarm of connected machines. It is spread across eighteen names so no single company carries the bet, with a small cash cushion, and it is meant to be held for years as this shift plays out rather than traded on headlines.
What it owns
- These companies find and lock down internet-connected equipment like the supermarket fridges and factory devices that attackers exploit when they sit exposed online. · FortinetIt sells firewalls and network security widely used in factories, stores and branch offices to isolate connected machines from outside reach., Cisco SystemsIt owns much of the network gear that connected machines run on and sells tools to spot and secure those devices, providing steady ballast as the security business grows., TenableIt finds devices that are exposed or running unpatched software, the exact gap behind connected device attacks in factories and stores., QualysIt scans for missing security fixes, addressing the gap shown by exposed connected devices that remained vulnerable weeks after patches were released., Rapid7It helps companies see everything they have exposed and respond to attacks, offering a way to own the patch-gap problem at a lower cost.27%
- These platforms replace the office firewall by checking every connection, wherever devices and apps sit. · ZscalerIt checks every user and connection through its cloud platform instead of trusting anyone inside an office network, replacing VPNs and old firewalls with zero-trust verification., Palo Alto NetworksIt sells firewalls, zero-trust access and cloud security as one consolidated platform that steadies a portfolio while security spreads across the internet., Check Point SoftwareIt is a long-running firewall company adding zero-trust and cloud tools to steady riskier holdings while it moves customers toward its newer products., NetskopeIt checks how people use cloud apps and the web from anywhere by applying zero-trust logic to shadow IT and cloud activity.25%
- With no central office wall left, the login and the device itself become the main target for attackers, so protecting them is the core defense. · CrowdStrikeIt protects laptops, servers and logins across remote work by checking every endpoint instead of relying on an office perimeter that no longer exists., OktaIt handles logins for thousands of companies, and when there's no office wall, checking who someone is becomes the main line of defense., SailPointIt manages who has access to what inside organizations and maintains those permissions as the number of people, applications and AI agents grows., SentinelOneIt is the smaller rival to CrowdStrike in protecting laptops and servers, offering a higher-risk way to own endpoint security independent of the largest player.22%
- These companies run the spread-out networks that carry and filter internet traffic close to where people and devices are, replacing the old model of security boxes in one place. · CloudflareIt runs one of the biggest edge networks positioned close to users and filters traffic before it reaches company servers, shifting security from boxes in offices to the internet's edge., Akamai TechnologiesIt operates an established edge network that blocks attacks on websites and apps close to where users are, with security and cloud business offsetting its shrinking content delivery side., FastlyIt is a smaller edge network that lets companies run code and security checks right at the edge, betting on traffic being handled close to users instead of centrally.17%
