The idea
I believe Poland and its eastern flank neighbors keep ramping defense spending for a decade, and the suppliers winning those orders keep benefiting. To express it, I hold Poland's own market and a European defense ETF directly, the large US contractors behind the systems being bought, the munitions and drone makers that need steady restocking, and the nuclear and energy-security chain backing the region's buildout. Large defense primes anchor the core, I keep a slice in cash, and I'm not betting the idea on any single name.
What it owns
- Poland's biggest defense orders for air defense, fighter jets, tanks, helicopters and networked systems all come from these US contractors, making them direct recipients of eastern flank rearmament. 路 Lockheed MartinIt makes the HIMARS rocket launchers, F-35 fighter jets and air defense interceptors that Poland and its neighbors have ordered as core weapons systems., RTX CorporationIt builds the Patriot air defense system Poland is acquiring with US-backed financing and recently won a major contract for air defense missiles., General DynamicsIt makes the Abrams tanks Poland ordered and produces the artillery shells that NATO armies consume at high rates across the eastern flank., Northrop GrummanIt makes the integrated battle command system that ties Poland's Patriot batteries and radars into a single air defense network, a key piece of layered air defense expansion., BoeingIt makes the AH-64E Apache helicopter that Poland ordered in a large quantity backed by US loan guarantees, though this holding reflects only that specific eastern flank order.31%
- Poland is replacing Russian gas and coal with American nuclear reactors, small modular reactors, liquefied natural gas imports and grid upgrades to cut dependence on Russian energy. 路 CamecoIt co-owns Westinghouse, whose reactors are going into Poland's nuclear plant project, and also mines the uranium to fuel it, making it a supplier to both the reactor build and long-term fuel needs., GE VernovaIt makes small modular reactors and electrical grid equipment that Poland and neighboring countries need to replace Russian energy sources and upgrade grid infrastructure., BWX TechnologiesIt makes reactor components and nuclear fuel materials that Poland's new nuclear plant and a wave of other regional reactors will need as energy security spending moves forward., Brookfield Renewable PartnersIt is a partner owner of Westinghouse, which is building Poland's nuclear plant, though most of its business is renewable energy and the nuclear piece is a small part of the total., Cheniere EnergyIt ships liquefied natural gas from the US to Europe, serving Poland and neighboring countries as they replace Russian gas with American supply for energy security.23%
- Poland's largest companies are benefiting from faster economic growth and EU defense loans steered toward domestic firms, positioning the region as a center for eastern flank spending. 路 iShares MSCI Poland ETFIt is a fund of Poland's largest companies, which benefit directly from faster growth forecasts and defense spending steered toward Polish firms under government commitments., Select STOXX Europe Aerospace & Defense ETFIt holds the European defense makers arming Poland and eastern flank countries with systems that don't trade in US markets, giving the take exposure to European suppliers winning SAFE loan contracts.19%
- Missiles, rocket motors, loitering munitions, drones and air defense systems get consumed in use and reordered, creating recurring spending that persists year after year across the eastern flank. 路 L3Harris TechnologiesIt owns a major US maker of solid rocket motors, the component that limits how fast the US can produce missiles for Poland and its neighbors as demand outpaces supply., AeroVironmentIt makes loitering munitions and directed energy weapons that get consumed in use and must be replaced, plus newer systems it recently won contracts to build for regional armies., Kratos Defense & Security SolutionsIt builds low-cost drones designed to be bought in large numbers and accepted as expendable, fitting a shift toward cheaper autonomous systems across eastern flank militaries., Elbit SystemsIt sells artillery, rocket systems and munitions directly to European armies, competing for eastern flank orders as a European supplier., Leonardo DRSIt makes systems that detect and destroy drones, addressing the defensive side of the drone buildup as countries bordering Russia and Belarus protect troops and bases from aerial attacks.19%
