The Great Disconnect Rebuild

The idea
I believe a disconnect shock is coming, a moment when banks, utilities, grocers and governments are forced to cut critical machines off the internet and rebuild them as trusted, isolated hardware. This basket owns the companies positioned for that rebuild: US-based chipmakers, factory and grid control systems, closed private networking gear, offline backup storage, and defense electronics firms that already build sealed systems.
What will be bought
- A rebuild of isolated systems requires semiconductors made in domestic plants with complete supply chain control, limiting foreign access to critical infrastructure. · GlobalFoundries Inc.It manufactures semiconductors in domestic plants and holds government contracts for trusted chip production, making it a natural supplier for sealed infrastructure., Intel CorporationIt is the largest US chipmaker attempting to build advanced semiconductors on American soil, which would form the foundation of disconnected system rebuilds., Texas Instruments IncorporatedIt makes the basic power and sensor chips used in controllers, meters and machines, mostly from its own US factories that would supply rebuilt offline equipment., Microchip Technology IncorporatedIt makes the small control chips used in factory machines and military equipment from largely domestic supply, needed in large quantities for offline rebuilds., Lattice Semiconductor CorporationIt makes programmable chips that can verify server and defense firmware integrity after deployment, essential for proving sealed systems remain uncompromised.26%
- Power plants, refineries and manufacturing facilities would need their control systems replaced or hardened to run securely without internet connectivity. · Rockwell Automation, Inc.It manufactures the control systems for factory lines across the US and would be the main supplier for hardening or replacing controls that must run offline., Eaton Corporation plcIt manufactures switchgear and backup power systems that every rebuilt data center, financial site and grid station requires for physical infrastructure., Emerson Electric Co.It runs control systems inside refineries, chemical plants and utilities that would need replacement or hardening if those facilities disconnect from networks., Honeywell International Inc.It sells building controls, plant automation and electronics already installed in plants, warehouses and airports that would be rebuilt as closed systems.19%
- Systems disconnected from public networks still need to communicate internally, requiring private infrastructure that replaces internet-dependent equipment. · Cisco Systems, Inc.It builds the routers and switches that operate bank, government and utility networks, making it the primary vendor for private network reconstruction., Arista Networks, Inc.It makes the high-speed switches for data centers, and demand would grow if computing shifts from public clouds to private, self-operated facilities., Ciena CorporationIt makes optical equipment for private fiber connections between buildings, which organizations would need to link their own sites after internet disconnection.16%
- Defense contractors already design computers built to operate in isolated, internet-free environments with built-in security against tampering. · L3Harris Technologies, Inc.It builds encrypted radios and secure communications systems designed to function when networks are severed or compromised, serving military requirements., Mercury Systems, Inc.It manufactures rugged, secure computer boards for defense systems that resist hacking and tampering in isolated network environments., General Dynamics CorporationIt operates classified government computer networks already isolated from the internet and would bring that expertise to broader infrastructure rebuilds., CACI International IncIt builds and operates networks and cyber defense for US agencies and would be the primary contractor for hands-on work in system disconnection and rebuild.16%
- Data stored on-premise in physically disconnected drives becomes critical infrastructure when cloud-based records cannot be trusted. · Seagate Technology Holdings plcIt makes hard drives, the most cost-effective way to store large data volumes on physically disconnected media that can be locked away., Western Digital CorporationIt manufactures hard drives alongside its competitor, serving demand for offline data storage that cannot depend on cloud infrastructure., NetApp, Inc.It sells storage systems that companies run on-site instead of renting cloud space, directly serving the shift to in-house, offline data management.12%
