Space Economy Half and Half
The idea
I think space is turning into a real economy, not just a launch business, so I split this basket in half. One side owns companies already earning from space today: satellite operators, rocket and parts makers, and their defense suppliers. The other side is frontier exposure: lunar landers, private stations, robotics, and the chip and cloud giants building computers meant to run in orbit. I keep a mid-sized cash buffer since these stocks swing hard, avoid leaning on any single name, and plan to hold for years as the picture becomes clearer.
What will be bought
- Lunar landers, private space stations and in-space manufacturing are the closest public bets on robots working and building beyond Earth. · Intuitive MachinesIt builds landers that deliver cargo to the Moon and represents the closest public bet on robots working beyond Earth., RedwireIt builds space hardware and runs experiments in manufacturing things in orbit, the early version of factories working off Earth., Voyager TechnologiesIt is building a private space station meant to replace the International Space Station, the closest public bet on people and robots living in orbit., Firefly AerospaceIt builds both small rockets and Moon landers, covering launch and lunar delivery in one company.26%
- These operators already sell internet, phone service and images from orbit, which grounds the take in real revenue. · Planet LabsIt photographs the whole Earth from orbit and sells that imagery and data to governments and companies., AST SpaceMobileIt is building cell towers in orbit so regular phones can get broadband with no special hardware, working through mobile carriers., ViasatIt sells satellite broadband to airlines, ships, governments and homes, making money from orbit right now., Iridium CommunicationsIt runs a satellite network that already turns a profit selling voice and data links around the globe, proving space connectivity can pay., BlackSky TechnologyIt sells fast, repeat satellite photos of specific places, mostly to defense and intelligence customers., GlobalstarIt owns satellite spectrum and a network that lets ordinary phones send messages from space, a slice of the space economy earning now.24%
- The biggest computing companies are designing chips and systems meant to run in space, which is the earliest money in orbital computing. · NVIDIAIt makes the chips that space computing projects plan to use for running artificial intelligence in orbit., AlphabetIt is working on putting its own artificial intelligence chips in orbit as one of the most direct public bets on data centers in space., AmazonIt is building its own satellite internet network and runs the biggest cloud business, positioned to tie computing and orbit together.19%
- Every satellite and lander needs a ride and hardware, so these companies get paid no matter who wins in orbit. · Rocket LabIt both launches rockets and builds the spacecraft that ride on them, earning money from space operations today., L3Harris TechnologiesIt builds the sensors, satellites and rocket engines that governments pay for, making money from space and missile-warning work., Karman HoldingsIt makes the parts that go into rockets and missiles, getting paid no matter which launch company wins., Teledyne TechnologiesIt makes the imaging sensors and detectors that end up inside satellites and space telescopes, a profitable piece of the space supply chain.19%
