The idea
I believe AI health agents are becoming the first stop for medical questions, and the companies feeding them data become the new gatekeepers of care, a layer sitting in front of family medicine. This basket leans into pure plays on that shift: home diagnostics, continuous sensing, and the sensor chips underneath, plus platform-sized weights in companies that own the wrist and the biosensor. I'm holding 10% in cash to absorb volatility from the smaller names and sized this as a long-term, multi-year idea rather than a trade.
What it owns
- Mail-in and at-home tests let an agent order real lab work without a clinic visit. · NateraIts genetic tests provide the kind of deep, orderable-from-home data that would make a health agent genuinely useful rather than a symptom checker., Guardant HealthIts blood-based cancer screening is exactly the measurement a pre-primary care layer would run before anyone sees a doctor., Tempus AIIt aggregates diagnostic data and builds AI on top of it, which is the raw material a personal health agent runs on., Quest DiagnosticsIts consumer-ordered testing is a direct read on whether people start care with a test instead of a doctor visit., LabcorpIt owns the rails that at-home and consumer-ordered testing run on, so when an AI agent says get this checked, the sample often goes through its network.29%
- Wearables that measure the body continuously are the raw data feed a health agent runs on. · DexcomIts continuous glucose monitors feed a personal health agent before a doctor gets involved, and growth depends on spreading beyond diabetes into everyday metabolic tracking., iRhythm TechnologiesIts Zio patch turns weeks of heart rhythm into data a health agent can act on, and its VitalConnect acquisition extends that into broader continuous vital-sign monitoring., GarminIt ships health sensors on millions of wrists, which makes it part of the data layer a pre-primary care agent would draw from.23%
- Apple, Abbott and Alphabet aggregate the sensors and will host the health agent itself. · AppleIt owns the wrist and the hub where all health data lands, and the take works as long as Apple keeps adding health sensing and agent-like features., Abbott LaboratoriesIts Libre is the biggest biosensor platform in the world, and Lingo pushes glucose sensing to people without diabetes, which is the consumerization the take depends on., AlphabetIt owns Fitbit's sensor data and is building the health AI that could become the agent itself, covering both ends of the take.20%
- Chipmakers underneath every wearable win no matter whose device sits on the wrist. · Analog DevicesIt makes the chips that turn a body into a signal, so it gets paid whichever wearable wins., STMicroelectronicsIt supplies sensor silicon across the wearable market, the picks-and-shovels side of the data layer.11%
- New device categories like handheld ultrasound extend what home monitoring can see. · OwletIt already does pre-primary care for infants with a sock that watches vitals at home and flags problems before a pediatrician visit., Butterfly NetworkIts handheld ultrasound is the kind of imaging that could move from clinic to home, exactly the pre-primary care hardware the take predicts.7%
