Where IT Budgets Go Now

The idea
I think IT budgets are shifting, not shrinking. When Infosys and peers warn that big outsourced projects are slowing, I see that money moving into cloud platforms, automation software, and security tools instead, with a small slice in the chips behind AI compute. So rather than bet against the services firms, I own the destinations for that spend, spread across many large names with no single-stock concentration and a modest cash cushion. I'd rethink this if cloud and security spending itself started slowing alongside services.
What it owns
- When companies redirect spending away from outsourced services contracts, much of that budget moves to cloud and AI services from the major platforms. · MicrosoftAzure and Copilot capture budget shifted away from traditional IT services contracts, positioning the platform as a primary destination for companies moving to cloud and AI., AlphabetGoogle Cloud and Gemini let companies buy AI tools and services directly instead of paying consultants to build them from scratch., AmazonIt operates the largest cloud computing rental platform, so corporate budget shifts from external services firms often appear as growth here., OracleOracle provides cloud computing capacity and database services that major companies depend on, positioning it to capture redirected IT budgets if cloud bookings convert to revenue.30%
- This software automates coding, data and workflow tasks that IT services firms once billed by the hour, directly replacing outsourced labor. · ServiceNowServiceNow automates IT and back-office workflows that outsourcers traditionally billed by the hour, making it a direct replacement for consulting labor., Palantir TechnologiesThe platform lets companies deploy AI with small internal teams rather than large consulting organizations, reducing dependence on outsourced expertise., DatadogThe platform monitors software running in cloud environments, so its sales grow as more IT workloads migrate from on-premise to cloud., SnowflakeAI projects require company data organized and accessible in one place, and the data platform sells that capability directly to enterprises rather than through services firms., MongoDBThe database platform lets developers build applications quickly with small teams, reducing the need for large outsourced development organizations., UiPathSoftware bots automate repetitive office tasks, serving as the most direct replacement for hourly outsourced labor in the take.27%
- Security budgets remain resilient even when other projects get cut, and expanding AI adoption creates new vulnerabilities that companies must pay to protect against. · CrowdStrikeMore AI workloads inside companies create expanded attack surfaces, and the platform protects the endpoints where that AI infrastructure runs., Palo Alto NetworksThe security platform gains wallet share as companies consolidate spending and move workloads to cloud environments that require broader protection., ZscalerThe platform secures access to cloud applications without traditional office networks, becoming more essential as IT budgets shift toward cloud infrastructure., CloudflareThe global network accelerates and protects internet traffic, including AI applications, becoming more valuable as companies expand cloud deployments., FortinetFirewalls and security tools protect a wide range of companies moving workloads to cloud, making it a steady beneficiary of ongoing security budget spending.25%
- Every dollar spent on cloud and AI infrastructure ultimately runs on processor hardware, making chip makers a concentrated beneficiary of this budget shift. · BroadcomThe company designs custom AI chips and networking components for major cloud platforms, making it a beneficiary of heavy cloud infrastructure spending., NVIDIAEvery dollar spent on cloud and AI infrastructure ultimately runs on processor chips, and the company's processors are the industry standard.10%
