The idea
I think GLP-1 drugs are a bigger shift than most people realize, and the obvious winners are already priced in, so I skip the drugmakers and bet on the ripple effects instead. The basket spreads across three themes: the new-body economy of fitness and apparel, the food reshuffle toward protein and fresh, and the healthcare payers who benefit as obesity complications decline, plus a slice for aftercare and access. It leans on larger, steadier names with a few smaller asymmetric bets, keeps some cash on hand, and is built to be held for years as a slow reshaping rather than a quick trade.
What it owns
- GLP-1 users eat less overall but shift toward more protein and fresh foods, redirecting grocery spending patterns. · BellRing BrandsProtein shakes meet the core need of GLP-1 users who must preserve muscle while eating far less, and Premier Protein is the straightforward choice driving category growth ahead of packaged food overall., Sprouts Farmers MarketIt is built around the exact grocery basket that GLP-1 users buy: fresh, less junk, and more protein, growing faster than conventional competitors if the shift holds., Costco WholesaleIt anchors the fresh and protein side of the grocery shift at scale while also capturing wardrobe and supplement spending from people rebuilding their bodies., Simply Good FoodsWhen appetite shrinks, high-protein snacks survive while conventional snacks lose share, and it holds its place as long as that category remains in favor., Vital FarmsEggs offer the cheapest high-quality protein available, and its premium brand attracts customers who shift their diet and upgrade quality as they reduce overall intake.28%
- People who lose significant weight join gyms, buy new activewear, and replace their entire wardrobe as they adopt a new lifestyle. · Planet FitnessThe lowest-cost gym chain reaches the broadest slice of newly active people, capturing growth if new-member trends accelerate beyond their pre-GLP-1 baseline., Lululemon AthleticaPeople resizing into smaller bodies rebuild wardrobes with activewear, and it maintains its place as long as North America customers trade into premium athletic apparel rather than just replacing basics., TJX CompaniesMillions of people dropping multiple sizes need to rebuild wardrobes on budget, and it is where mass-market apparel replacement happens when comparable sales show that wave arriving., NikeIt benefits from sustained growth in active-lifestyle spending as millions of people adopt fitness habits and dress for it, fitting a long-term reshaping rather than a temporary trend., Life Time GroupPeople who lose weight and want to maintain it tend to upgrade to premium fitness, so membership and per-member spending must keep climbing as the GLP-1 population grows.27%
- Insurers retain savings as obesity-related complications like diabetes, heart disease, and joint problems decline across their membership. · UnitedHealth GroupAs the largest insurer, it captures the biggest savings when obesity-related medical costs decline, provided the drug expenses don't outrun those savings for extended periods., Cigna GroupIts insurance arm saves when members get healthier, and its pharmacy arm profits managing the GLP-1 prescriptions themselves, provided both engines add margin rather than just cost., Elevance HealthIts heavy Medicaid population carries disproportionate obesity-related costs, so wider GLP-1 access could compress its medical ratios more than competitors if coverage expands., Labcorp HoldingsMillions of people on GLP-1s require routine blood testing for metabolic, liver, and muscle markers, so it stays sound while testing volumes grow with the drug population.22%
- Weight loss creates demand for skin treatments, muscle care products, and the telehealth platforms that prescribe and manage these drugs. · AbbVieRapid weight loss creates demand for facial aesthetics, and it owns the dominant brands people choose to address loose skin and volume loss., Hims & Hers HealthIt is often the first place people access GLP-1s, then remain as customers for follow-on weight-loss and wellness products, depending on continued subscriber growth and sustained regulatory access., EvolusIt is a smaller challenger in injectables that grows if aesthetic demand expands, holding its position while taking share in a growing market for facial treatments., InModeLoose skin after large weight loss is its core product category, and it earns its smaller position if device sales accelerate on demand for skin tightening.15%
