Real-World Robot Data

The idea
I believe the real bottleneck for AI isn't the brain, it's the body: nothing teaches a robot to work in the world like real physical data, and simulation can't fully replace it. So this is built around the companies already collecting that data at scale through cars, warehouses, delivery, and wearables, with a meaningful slice spread across smaller, unusual data collectors for asymmetric upside, plus a smaller allocation to the motors, sensors, and chips every robot body needs.
What it owns
- These companies already operate massive fleets of robots and cameras collecting physical data daily, which is harder to replicate in simulation than most tasks. · Tesla, Inc.Its car fleet transmits real driving video daily, and Optimus is designed to collect the same kind of data for a humanoid body performing real work., Amazon.com, Inc.It runs one of the world's largest active robot fleets, moving real packages in real warehouses and collecting the physical data that defines robot learning., Alphabet Inc.Waymo logs robotaxi miles on real streets while DeepMind researches robot control, both generating genuine physical data that simulators struggle to match., Meta Platforms, Inc.Its camera glasses record first-person video of hands and physical tasks, providing exactly the kind of data an embodied AI needs to learn how to control a body.31%
- Small companies gathering real-world physical data through unusual methods could see outsized returns if their autonomous operations or data licensing achieve scale. · Serve Robotics Inc.Its sidewalk and hospital robots collect real street and indoor data while performing paid work, with plans to license the autonomy software behind them., Kodiak AI, Inc.It has driven millions of autonomous truck miles and launched its first long-haul driverless route, collecting real highway data most competitors have not yet gathered at scale., PROCEPT BioRobotics CorporationIts prostate surgery robot has reached hundreds of hospital installations and thousands of procedures, accumulating rare surgical data from a small company., Aurora Innovation, Inc.It operates driverless trucks on real highways hauling paid freight, piling up long-haul driving data that no simulator can fully replicate., Richtech Robotics Inc.Its business model centers on selling data generation services to train robot AI, making the data shortage the core product., GoPro, Inc.Its subscribers have contributed hundreds of thousands of hours of first-person video showing people moving and using their hands in the real world, now available for AI licensing.31%
- As robot fleets grow, demand for motors, sensors, gears and onboard chips will likely outpace supply, creating bottlenecks that favor component makers. · NVIDIA CorporationIt makes the onboard chips most robot bodies use to process information, and every deployed robot needs an AI brain chip from its lineup., Ouster, Inc.It makes lidar sensors that enable robots and autonomous vehicles to see their environment, addressing a sensor component bottleneck as fleets scale., Regal Rexnord CorporationIt manufactures motors and actuators that create movement in robot joints, which will face supply constraints as robot deployments grow., The Timken CompanyIt produces bearings and precision gear drives for robot arms and joints, mechanical parts likely to become scarce as robotics expands., Allient Inc.It is a smaller maker of motors and motion-control parts for robots and automation systems, providing exposure to component supply constraints.15%
- Surgery robots, self-driving tractors and autonomous trucks generate rare, precise data about physical tasks that simulators cannot fully replicate. · Intuitive Surgical, Inc.Its surgical robots perform thousands of procedures in hospitals, recording precise hand movements that build a data record the market has not yet valued as a data asset., Deere & CompanyIts self-driving tractors and connected farm machines collect real field data across large areas, information that simulation cannot easily replicate.10%
