The idea
I believe AI is making product design and programming cheap, which shifts the bottleneck to actually making parts reliably, precise motion, controlled contact, dependable tooling, and proof each part meets spec. Rather than chase new factory buildouts, which already peaked, I'm positioned in what fills and runs them: precision bearings and joint gearing, force and torque sensors, tool changers, inspection gear, and the shops that buy up local calibration and testing work, since failure means downtime and replacement means requalification.
What it owns
- Precision bearings, gearing, force sensors and tool changers are small parts that stop production lines when they fail, making them hard to design out despite their low cost relative to the robot itself. · Novanta Inc.It makes force and torque sensors and automatic tool changers that are difficult to swap out of robot and automation systems once qualified., RBC Bearings IncorporatedIts precision bearings are often the only approved component for a given application, making requalification with an alternative extremely costly even though the bearing itself is inexpensive., The Timken CompanyIt manufactures precision bearings and gear drives that serve robot joints and automated equipment, products whose sales and pricing power track industrial utilization., Allient Inc.It manufactures small precision motors and motion components for robots and automated equipment, providing the accurate motion that smarter machines still require., Regal Rexnord CorporationIt manufactures motors, gears and actuators that drive automated machines and robots, components whose sales track industrial automation spending and whose replacement difficulty supports pricing.30%
- Instruments and equipment must be recalibrated and tested on a regular schedule, creating a stream of repeat work that grows as factories add automated processes. · Transcat, Inc.It consolidates local calibration laboratories and keeps customers on recalibration schedules, turning scattered regional shops into a platform with recurring revenue., Mistras Group, Inc.It performs inspection and testing services that certify equipment and parts meet specification, a qualification step that must be repeated as products and processes change., Acuren CorporationIt performs equipment and parts testing and certification services that validate manufacturing processes, work that must be repeated as products and specifications change.19%
- Vision systems and precision instruments that prove a finished part meets specification become more essential as factories add automated lines and need faster, more frequent proof of compliance. · Fortive CorporationIts calibration and test instruments, sold under the Fluke brand, are widely deployed in factories and require regular replacement and recalibration as part of routine maintenance., Cognex CorporationIt sells cameras and software that inspect parts on production lines, providing proof that finished products meet specification and becoming more essential as factories automate., AMETEK, Inc.It produces a broad range of precision instruments and measurement equipment that are typically difficult for customers to substitute, supporting consistent pricing and margin stability., Mesa Laboratories, Inc.It makes instruments that validate manufacturing processes so customers can prove repeatable results, with qualification products that grow as factories add automated lines.16%
- Cutting tools, dispensing nozzles and precision contact systems wear out and must be replaced regularly, and a worn or poor tool creates scrap and downtime. · Kennametal Inc.Its cutting tools wear out in use and are repurchased regularly, with poor tool performance creating scrap parts and line downtime that motivate repeat purchases., Nordson CorporationIt makes precision dispensing systems that apply exact amounts of adhesive or coating to parts, plus replacement nozzles that require frequent reordering to maintain process consistency., ATS CorporationIt designs and builds automated assembly lines that convert new factory installations into running operations, with the potential to generate follow-on service and maintenance work.13%
- Regional automation, repair and service shops are being consolidated into larger platforms, offering a way to own the local shop ecosystem that factories depend on. · Applied Industrial Technologies, Inc.It buys local automation and motion service shops and sells the motion control parts and ongoing service that keep production lines running without interruption., DXP Enterprises, Inc.It acquires local pump and rotating equipment service shops, consolidating overlooked repair businesses that factories rely on for maintaining automated production equipment.12%
