The idea
I believe consumer robotics is at its dawn, with an inflection coming in the next 2-3 years as humanoids, home robots, and robotaxis move past pilots. Rather than bet on which robot maker wins, I own the suppliers every robot needs: precision motion, perception sensors, robot-brain compute, and power electronics. It's deliberately concentrated in companies already landing design wins, with a cash sleeve kept back to buy dips in these high-beta names, and I'd rethink it if the design wins stop coming.
What it owns
- Motors, gears, bearings, and actuation systems are the hardest components to manufacture at scale and become the primary constraint as robot production ramps. · Regal RexnordIt supplies the motors, gearing, and power transmission components that every robot arm and mobile platform requires to function., NovantaIt manufactures precision motion subsystems including encoders and servo drives that integrate directly into robot joints and industrial actuators., TimkenIt produces engineered bearings and drive systems that form essential joints and actuators in robot arms and mobile platforms., RBC BearingsIt manufactures high-precision bearings meeting the tight tolerances required by humanoid joints and high-speed robot actuators., Parker HannifinIt provides motion control, actuation, and fluid power systems that scale with industrial automation and robotics buildout across multiple end markets., AllientIt manufactures specialized motion solutions and motors for robotics applications, offering concentrated upside if standardized adoption by major robot makers accelerates.28%
- Cameras, lidar, infrared, touch sensors, and motion awareness systems enable robots to operate beyond factory floors, regardless of which robot design ultimately wins. · CognexIt leads in machine vision systems that serve as the primary eyes for industrial and logistics robots navigating dynamic environments., onsemiIt supplies image sensors and intelligent sensing chips that detect and process visual information in robotaxis, vehicles, and autonomous systems., TE ConnectivityIt provides connectors, sensors, and wiring harnesses that integrate every subsystem into a functioning robot, representing foundational picks-and-shovels exposure., TeledyneIts imaging and infrared sensing portfolio enables robots to perceive environments beyond visible light, expanding operational capability in low-visibility conditions., STMicroelectronicsIt supplies motion sensors and inertial measurement units that give robots the balance and spatial awareness essential for humanoid and legged locomotion., OusterIt develops solid-state lidar sensors for industrial robots and autonomous mobile robots, representing a high-risk, high-reward perception technology bet.25%
- The chips and software platforms that train and run artificial intelligence on robots themselves command the highest margins in the supply stack. · NVIDIAIt is the standard compute platform for embodied artificial intelligence training and inference across most robot makers building production systems., QualcommIt develops power-efficient edge artificial intelligence processors optimized for on-device computation in battery-constrained robots and drones., Arm HoldingsIt collects royalties on the processor architecture underlying nearly every robot brain sold, representing a pure toll on the inflection regardless of chipmaker identity.18%
- Battery-powered robots depend on efficient power conversion and dense power delivery to compute and motors, a critical chokepoint often overlooked in public discussion. · Monolithic Power SystemsIt manufactures power-management silicon that converts battery energy to usable power for artificial intelligence compute and motor-drive systems., Texas InstrumentsIt supplies analog and power-management chips that appear across every robot subsystem, from motor control to sensor interface and data acquisition., VicorIt produces high-density power modules that solve the engineering challenge of delivering power to compute and actuation systems in confined robot bodies.12%
- Direct stakes in the flagship robot programs themselves, since their production milestones and deployment success trigger the entire supply chain's re-rating. · TeslaIts Optimus humanoid program and robotaxi deployment represent the catalytic events most likely to trigger broad re-rating of robot-supply-chain companies., SymboticIts warehouse automation systems deployed at commercial scale demonstrate that robot economics and reliability have reached viable production maturity today.7%
