The idea
I believe personal humanoid robots become as commonplace as refrigerators over the next decade, so instead of betting on the robot makers themselves, I own the two component layers every humanoid needs regardless of who wins: sensing (vision, touch, force, position) and actuation (precision motors, gears, magnets, specialty materials). The portfolio leans on large industrial and semiconductor suppliers already profitable today, with smaller pure-plays and the rare-earth magnet chain for upside if volumes ramp.
What it owns
- Robot joints and limbs require high-accuracy motors, actuators, bearings and gears that translate power into exact movement, making these the hardest components to manufacture well. · Parker HannifinThe scale leader in motion control systems and actuators across industrial machinery, already selling these components profitably at massive volume., MoogBuilds precision actuators for aerospace and defense that hit exact positions reliably, the kind of high-accuracy muscle humanoid limbs require., Regal RexnordManufactures industrial motors and the gearing that converts motor spin into useful rotational movement, a broad profitable supplier at scale., NovantaPackages precision motion subsystems including motors and controls for demanding applications like surgical robotics, bridging component supply and robot-specific integration., RBC BearingsEngineers precision bearings with tight tolerances for high-accuracy motion, matching the specialized component quality that robot joints demand., TimkenMakes precision bearings that let every rotating joint move smoothly and accurately, an unglamorous but essential component every robot needs., AllientA smaller specialist in motion control and specialized motors where robotics applications comprise a meaningful part of the business.32%
- Robots navigating and working in the physical world need cameras, image sensors and depth sensing to perceive their surroundings, a hardware layer that underpins any humanoid design. · Teledyne TechnologiesMakes thermal and infrared imaging sensors that let machines see in conditions ordinary cameras cannot, a mature profitable industrial business serving demanding applications., onsemiSupplies machine vision image sensors at scale into automotive and factory automation, positioning it as a foundational provider regardless of which roboticist wins., CognexStands as the purest public company focused on machine vision systems, the exact sensing-layer business that robot eyes require., AmbarellaProduces edge-processing vision chips that turn raw camera pixels into machine understanding on the robot itself rather than relying on cloud connectivity., OusterProduces lidar sensors that measure distance and depth, giving robots the three-dimensional spatial awareness that flat cameras alone cannot provide.23%
- Robots must sense pressure, grip force and the precise angle of each joint through magnetic, strain and position sensors that feed back to the control system. · TE ConnectivityManufactures the sensors and interconnects that wire a machine's sense of touch, force and position together, sold at huge scale into nearly every industrial segment., AmphenolThe backbone interconnect supplier carrying every sensor signal through a machine, with market leadership and scale across industrial hardware segments., Allegro MicroSystemsSpecializes in magnetic position sensors that tell motors and joints exactly where they are, a critical feedback layer for robot control systems., Sensata TechnologiesManufactures pressure and force sensors that measure how hard something is being pushed or gripped, the tactile feedback layer for robot manipulation., Vishay Precision GroupManufactures strain gauges that measure deformation and pressure with high precision, the fundamental physical element behind robot force sensing.22%
- High-torque robot motors depend on rare-earth magnets and specialty alloys, creating a supply-chain chokepoint the domestic industrial base is now rebuilding. · MP MaterialsAnchors the domestic rare-earth supply chain from mining through magnet production, a critical step for high-torque motor availability in the US., Carpenter TechnologyManufactures specialty alloys that high-performance motors and precision parts are machined from, the material-science layer of the supply chain., USA Rare EarthBuilding US magnet production capacity from the ground up, addressing the speculative but essential domestic supply gap if humanoid robot volumes scale., Energy FuelsAdvancing US rare-earth separation and processing, the critical middle step between mined ore and magnet-ready material that currently relies on Chinese suppliers.17%
