The idea
I believe animal testing is becoming worse science, and regulation is catching up to that reality, forcing a decade-long migration toward AI models and human tissue systems in drug development. This basket owns the replacement stack: tissue and cell model tools as the core, in-silico trial software and AI-native discovery for the sharper edge, plus data and compute infrastructure as ballast, with a small cash buffer. I deliberately excluded the animal-testing incumbent, and I'd rethink this if the regulatory roadmap stalls or reverses.
What it owns
- Preclinical labs shifting toward human-relevant methods need a steady stream of reagents, instruments, and consumables regardless of which specific approach wins. · Thermo Fisher ScientificIt supplies the reagents, cell lines, and instruments that human tissue models are built from, earning across the migration regardless of which replacement method dominates., Danaher CorporationIt provides the bioprocessing and analytics that human-model-based drug development runs on, profiting from the long-term shift without betting on a single technology., Revvity, Inc.It makes the imaging and detection tools used to read what human cell models are doing, staying relevant as labs replace animal studies with cell-based screening., Agilent TechnologiesIts lab analytics are used no matter which replacement method wins, providing steady exposure to a decade-long migration toward human-relevant preclinical methods., Bio-Techne CorporationIt makes the growth factors and proteins that organoids and human tissue models are literally grown with, one of the most direct tools-and-materials picks on the replacement stack., Repligen CorporationIt sells consumables that cell-based work burns through repeatedly, so rising adoption of human tissue models drives recurring orders., 10x Genomics, Inc.It sells single-cell analysis tools that reveal tissue behavior at a resolution animal studies cannot match, making it essential for validating human tissue models.38%
- Replacing animal studies means running on human genomic data, patient records, and heavy simulation, all of which require sustained spending on sequencing, analytics, and chips. · NVIDIA CorporationEvery in-silico trial and AI biology model in this stack runs on its chips, making it the compute backbone for simulating biology at scale., Illumina, Inc.Its sequencers generate the human genomic data that AI models and tissue systems are trained and validated on, essential to human-data-first drug development., IQVIA HoldingsIt turns real-world patient data into evidence that regulators increasingly accept alongside or instead of animal studies, betting that human data becomes the default input to approvals.20%
- Companies built around AI and human cell data from the start skip the animal-testing phase natively, so the phase-out becomes a competitive advantage rather than a transition cost. · Tempus AI, Inc.It turns real human clinical data into AI models that drugmakers can use as core input to discovery and trials, directly embodying the human-data approach replacing animal work., Recursion PharmaceuticalsIt maps human biology at scale with AI instead of running animal studies first, succeeding if AI-native discovery keeps producing drug candidates that animal-heavy rivals cannot match., AbCellera BiologicsIt discovers antibodies with an AI-driven, human-cell-based engine rather than mouse-heavy methods, winning as partners choose its platform for speed and molecular quality., Absci CorporationIt designs proteins generatively, skipping much of the animal-model loop entirely, advancing if computationally designed drugs keep moving into the clinic and attracting pharma partnerships.18%
- Regulatory acceptance of computer models and physics-based simulation in place of animal data is the core mechanism of this take. · Schrödinger, Inc.It sells physics-based simulation software that replaces wet-lab and animal experiments with computed answers, positioning it to grow as drugmakers shift preclinical work in-silico., Certara, Inc.Its biosimulation software is already being filed to the FDA in place of some animal data, putting it directly where regulatory mandates for replacements will land.16%
