The idea
I believe personal AI agents are about to do the money chores people never get around to: canceling forgotten subscriptions, re-shopping insurance and phone plans, and moving idle cash into better yield. That breaks the quiet reliance on inertia baked into a lot of consumer earnings, and I think the market reprices winners and losers within two to three quarters, before the damage even shows up.
What it owns
- When agents automatically move idle deposits to higher-yield destinations each night, money market funds and yield-paying brokerages become the natural landing spots for cash flowing out of zero-return bank accounts. · Interactive BrokersIt already pays near-market yields on idle cash, making it a natural destination when agents sweep deposits out of banks paying nothing., Robinhood MarketsIts high-yield cash sweep is the exact destination an agent picks when moving a checking balance earning zero., BlackRockIt runs some of the largest money market funds where idle bank deposits end up when agents sweep cash into full-yield accounts., Federated HermesMoney market funds make up most of its business, making it the most direct way to bet on cash flowing out of zero-yield bank deposits., SoFi TechnologiesIt pays competitive yields on deposits and wins when agents re-shop banking the way they re-shop everything else.25%
- The companies building consumer agents that automatically handle money chores, subscriptions, and shopping decisions need to embed these capabilities into the apps and services where people already spend time paying bills and renewing plans. · MicrosoftIt is building consumer agents into Copilot across Windows, Office, and the browser where bills and subscriptions actually get managed and renewed., AlphabetIt owns the places where subscription receipts and renewal reminders live, making it positioned to provide the agent tools that act within those same digital spaces., AmazonIt is pushing agentic shopping that re-buys and re-shops automatically, positioning it to benefit when agents do the comparing instead of humans.17%
- When agents compare options at every renewal instead of accepting defaults, the providers with the lowest prices and simplest switching processes capture share from competitors that relied on customer inertia. · ProgressiveIt built its entire model on winning price comparisons, which is exactly the contest agents will run at every insurance renewal., T-Mobile USIt is typically the cheapest major carrier, so when agents re-shop phone plans at renewal the switches flow its way., LemonadeIt is cheap and digital with easy agent integration, the kind of insurer that wins when comparison becomes automated.14%
- As agents cancel forgotten subscriptions, the services people actively use and choose to keep gain a larger share of consumer spending within the subscription category. · NetflixWhen agents cull forgotten subscriptions, it is the service people tell the agent to keep, leaving it stronger relative to lesser-used options., Spotify TechnologyIt is used daily, which is the engagement threshold an agent applies before deciding whether to cancel a subscription., Rocket CompaniesIt owns Rocket Money, which already cancels subscriptions and negotiates bills, giving it a head start on the behavior the take predicts goes mainstream.12%
- Agents still need payment processing and checkout infrastructure to complete purchases and switches, so the platforms that become the standard rails for agent transactions capture transaction volume regardless of where the sale originates. · ShopifyIts merchants are where agentic shopping completes a purchase, and it has been quick to integrate its checkout into AI assistants., VisaIt runs the payment rails that agents still need to transact through regardless of which merchant or service they route volume toward., PayPalIt is positioning itself as the wallet inside AI chat, including through partnerships that make it a toll booth on agentic checkout.11%
- Agents shopping on behalf of consumers need marketplaces to query for options, so the platforms aggregating quotes and pricing data from providers capture the traffic agents route through them. · LendingTreeIt operates a comparison marketplace for loans and rates that agents can route searches through, benefiting when agents enable re-shopping rather than direct provider visits., EverQuoteIt makes money when people compare insurance, and agents will re-shop every renewal instead of letting increases slide., NerdWalletIts comparison data is the kind of structured answer an agent pulls when deciding where to move a user's card, account, or plan.9%
