The idea
I think the frontier AI race is widening past a couple of leaders now that Meta looks like a real contender alongside the rest of the field. Rather than bet on one winner, I own the suppliers every lab has to use, chips, data center infrastructure, and power, with the rest split across the public companies closest to the frontier labs. Meta gets the single biggest weight as the newest credible contender, but nothing is a single-name bet, and I keep a cash reserve.
What it owns
- More competing labs all need accelerators and custom silicon, so chip makers benefit from the race regardless of which model reaches the top. · NVIDIANearly every frontier lab trains on its chips, so more labs competing for limited supply drives higher demand and sales., BroadcomIt designs custom AI chips for major frontier model developers, so growth in those labs' advanced research translates into new orders., Taiwan Semiconductor ManufacturingIt manufactures advanced chips for NVIDIA, AMD, Broadcom and labs' custom designs, so it profits regardless of which contender pulls ahead., Micron TechnologyIt makes the high-speed memory every AI chip requires, so more labs training frontier models means higher demand for its products., Advanced Micro DevicesIt serves as the main alternative to NVIDIA, and labs competing for scarce chip supply push some demand toward its AI accelerators.30%
- Owning other public labs and their backers means the take captures several winners rather than betting everything on one frontier model. · AlphabetIt operates Gemini as a top-tier frontier model, making the take less dependent on Meta alone and capturing value from Google's own chip and data center spending., MicrosoftIt funds OpenAI's spending and is building its own Maia AI chip, capturing value from both OpenAI's growth and its own model development., AmazonIt backs Anthropic and provides computing through AWS, offering public exposure to Anthropic's role in a widening frontier lab race., OracleIt rents computing capacity to frontier model labs building advanced systems, so expanded research spending by multiple competitors increases demand for its cloud infrastructure.19%
- Multiple labs building giant training clusters need networking gear, GPU rental capacity, and infrastructure to tie thousands of chips together. · Arista NetworksIt supplies the networking gear that connects thousands of chips into training clusters, and Meta is a major customer for this infrastructure., CoreWeaveIt rents GPU capacity to labs that need more computing than they can build internally, so more competing labs creates more customers., VertivIt supplies cooling and power equipment essential to every AI data center, regardless of which model architecture wins., Nebius GroupIt operates a GPU cloud serving frontier model labs, so increased compute demand from competition in advanced AI research flows through its infrastructure.18%
- Meta's frontier models have closed the gap to top labs, and a sustained push in AI spending would cement its shift from laggard to serious contender. · Meta PlatformsIt has closed the gap to top frontier labs with its Muse models, shifting from AI laggard to serious contender if it maintains spending and model performance.13%
- Frontier model training at gigawatt scale requires new power generation, grid equipment, and long-term electricity contracts from utilities and industrial suppliers. · Constellation EnergyIt runs the largest US nuclear fleet and has signed to supply Meta, providing steady round-the-clock power for training runs., VistraIt owns power plants in regions where data centers are expanding, so more labs building means more demand for its electricity., GE VernovaIt builds gas turbines and grid equipment that data centers and power plants need as power becomes a limiting factor for lab growth.11%
