The idea
I believe robotaxis scale faster than the market expects over the next three to five years, and that Tesla wins that race, with FSD still not priced into the stock. Tesla sits at my max single-position size as the core conviction, surrounded by the chips and silicon a driverless fleet trains and runs on, the power and charging it depends on, and the ride networks where that demand shows up. Alphabet gives me ballast in case Tesla's timeline slips while the broader shift stays intact, and I keep a cash buffer rather than stretch further into any one name.
What it owns
- Every mile of self-driving needs chips to train the models and chips in the car to run them. · NVIDIA CorporationTraining self-driving models runs on massive amounts of its hardware, so faster robotaxi scaling means a growing compute bill., Taiwan Semiconductor ManufacturingIt manufactures the custom chips Tesla designs for autonomous vehicles, so a larger driverless fleet means more silicon orders from its fabs., Vertiv HoldingsTraining autonomous driving models requires massive data centers, and it supplies the power and cooling infrastructure those facilities depend on., onsemiCamera-only autonomous systems mean every robotaxi carries image sensors, and it supplies that type of automotive sensor technology., Ambarella, Inc.It makes the vision processors that let cameras understand the road inside autonomous vehicles, which is what driverless fleets run on., STMicroelectronicsIt supplies the silicon carbide power chips that make electric drivetrains efficient, and continuous operation of a robotaxi fleet drives demand for these components.30%
- The core conviction is that Tesla's robotaxi business scales faster than the market expects and rewires its valuation over a multi-year horizon. · Tesla, Inc.Full self-driving capability remains underpriced into the valuation, and robotaxis are expected to scale faster than the market currently anticipates.25%
- Steadier holdings that still win from autonomy, to smooth the bumpy quarters over a multi-year hold. · Alphabet Inc.It owns a competitive autonomous vehicle program through Waymo, so it wins if the broader robotaxi race continues even if Tesla's timeline slips., Global X Autonomous & Electric Vehicles ETFIt spreads exposure across the autonomous and electric vehicle sector, cushioning the portfolio if one supplier stumbles while the overall shift stays on track.11%
- A fleet driving around the clock needs far more electricity and charging hardware than personal cars do. · Eaton CorporationA robotaxi fleet running around the clock needs substantial charging and power grid build-out, and it manufactures the electrical equipment that build-out requires., NextEra EnergyRobotaxis run on electricity, and it is the largest builder of cheap renewable power that a scaled fleet would draw from., EVgo Inc.It operates a fast-charging network that driverless fleets depend on since autonomous vehicles cannot charge at home overnight.10%
- Robotaxi demand shows up on ride apps first, and the networks get paid either way. · Uber TechnologiesRobotaxi rides will appear on ride networks first, and it operates the largest platform where that demand already integrates autonomous vehicles into its app., Lyft, Inc.It operates a second ride network, offering a lower-cost way to own exposure to robotaxi demand flowing through existing apps.9%
- High-utilization fleets wear through batteries fast, so battery makers and lithium suppliers sell more. · Albemarle CorporationEvery robotaxi is a battery on wheels, and it ranks among the largest lithium producers feeding battery demand from fleet growth., QuantumScape CorporationSolid-state batteries could let robotaxis charge faster and run longer, though the company remains in early production phases rather than shipping at scale.5%
