Europe's EV Shift

The idea
I believe Europe's shift to electric cars is accelerating and will keep rewarding the companies behind it for years, not just one strong month. So this basket spreads across the whole chain: automakers winning European share, battery cell makers, the lithium and copper that go into every pack, and the power chips and electrical parts where European suppliers lead. I keep a cash cushion and avoid loading up on any single name, and I'd rethink this if EU emissions rules get watered down.
What will be bought
- EVs carry far more power chips and wiring than gas cars, and Europe's suppliers lead in the semiconductors and electrical systems that make them run. · STMicroelectronics N.V.It makes silicon carbide power chips that run EV motors efficiently, with European carmakers as key customers that buy more as they shift to electric., NXP Semiconductors N.V.It makes the chips that manage EV batteries and run much of a modern car's electronics, with deep ties to European carmakers., ON Semiconductor CorporationIt supplies silicon carbide chips for EV inverters to many carmakers across Europe and beyond., Aptiv PLCIt builds the wiring and high-voltage electrical systems that EVs need far more of than petrol cars, with Europe a major market., BorgWarner Inc.It makes EV drivetrain parts like motors and power electronics for carmakers across Europe and the world.29%
- These companies are capturing rising European electric vehicle sales as the region shifts away from internal combustion engines. · Tesla, Inc.It is the biggest pure electric carmaker selling in Europe, so its European sales track closely with the region's EV adoption rate., KraneShares Electric Vehicles & Future Mobility ETFIt gives access to EV makers like BYD that don't trade on US exchanges and are among the companies taking market share in Europe., Stellantis N.V.It sells a large share of Europe's cars through brands like Peugeot, Fiat and Opel, and its cheaper EV partnership extends its reach as Europe electrifies., XPeng Inc.It is a Chinese EV maker pushing into Europe with cheaper models that appeal to buyers switching from petrol cars.28%
- More batteries and motors mean more lithium and copper, which these miners extract to supply the growing EV industry. · Albemarle CorporationIt is the world's largest lithium producer, and every EV battery needs lithium to function., Sociedad Química y Minera de ChileIt pulls lithium from Chilean brine at some of the world's lowest costs, so it stays profitable even when lithium prices fall with rising supply., Freeport-McMoRan Inc.It is a major copper miner, and an EV uses several times the copper of a petrol car plus more for charging infrastructure and grid work., Rio Tinto GroupIt supplies lithium and copper inside a large, diversified miner, providing steadier exposure to battery metals as EV demand grows.20%
- Every new EV needs a battery pack, and cell makers get paid on every pack that goes into a car regardless of which brand wins. · Global X Lithium & Battery Tech ETFIt holds battery cell makers and lithium producers, so it gets paid on every pack that goes into a European EV as demand climbs., QuantumScape CorporationIt is developing solid-state battery cells with Volkswagen's PowerCo as a bet on the next generation of European EV batteries.13%
