Live Sports Scarcity
Alex Hamilton@alexhamiltonco
The idea
I believe that as AI makes endless digital content cheap, live sports become the scarce thing people and media companies still pay up for, so I want to own the source of that scarcity rather than the apps or broadcasters around it. The basket holds team owners like MSG Sports, Atlanta Braves and Manchester United alongside league rights owners TKO and F1's parent, plus a small slice in marquee events, with cash held back and no single name dominating.
What will be bought
- Owning teams directly captures scarce live games, since new franchises almost never get created and existing ones rarely change hands. · Madison Square Garden SportsIt owns the Knicks and Rangers, two franchises in the largest U.S. media market that rarely become available for sale., Atlanta Braves HoldingsIt is the direct owner of an MLB franchise plus the ballpark district, capturing team-level ticket and broadcast income in a single holding., Manchester UnitedIt is one of the world's most watched sports brands, with value driven by global broadcast rights and live matchday revenue that cannot be replicated.43%
- Owning entire competitions means collecting media and ticket revenue from every event, not just individual games or franchises. · TKO Group HoldingsIt owns UFC and WWE outright, collecting media rights and ticket revenue from live fights and shows that cannot be artificially staged., Liberty Media Formula One GroupIt owns Formula One and MotoGP, global racing series where the entire product depends on real drivers taking real risks in live competition.40%
- A singular live sporting event becomes more valuable when digital technology makes everything else on screens reproducible. · Churchill DownsIt owns the Kentucky Derby, a singular live event with over a century of history that draws large crowds and television audiences annually.7%
