The idea
I believe people will get comfortable with AI through the phones and laptops they already carry, well before any new device category takes over, so the real winners are the incumbents making those devices and the silicon powering them. The basket spans on-device AI chips, device makers, key components, memory, and the manufacturing backbone behind it all, spread across many companies rather than betting on one name. I keep a slice in cash and expect to hold this for years, since it is a slow structural shift, not a quick trade.
What it owns
- Every AI-capable phone and laptop needs a processor designed to run AI locally, and these companies design or license the architectures that power them. · QualcommIt designs the processors that let Android phones run AI without waiting for entirely new hardware categories., Advanced Micro DevicesIt supplies the chips for AI-capable laptops, so it collects on the PC side of the on-device AI upgrade wave., Arm HoldingsIt receives royalties on nearly every phone chip regardless of which brand wins, which fits a broad ecosystem shift without picking a single winner., IntelIt powers most of the world's PCs, so an AI-driven laptop refresh flows through its business even while the company executes its turnaround.22%
- People upgrade the phones and computers they already own and trust rather than switch to new categories, so established device makers capture the shift to AI-capable machines. · AppleIt ships more iPhones and Macs than any competitor, so maintaining healthy upgrade cycles as AI features roll out keeps its installed base from switching., Dell TechnologiesIt sells laptops that businesses replace when AI features demand newer machines, so an AI PC refresh translates directly to shipment growth., HP Inc.It sells PCs to mass-market consumers replacing aging laptops with AI-capable ones, so it captures the mainstream upgrade wave.19%
- Chips for audio, radio, and connectivity ship inside every upgraded device, so steady replacement cycles flow straight through their revenue. · BroadcomIts connectivity chips sit inside phones that users keep upgrading rather than abandon, so replacement volume drives its revenue., Skyworks SolutionsIts radio chips ship in every phone upgrade, so a steady replacement cycle of AI-driven devices flows straight through its revenue., Cirrus LogicIt makes the audio chips that voice-driven AI on phones runs through, so wider adoption of voice interfaces drives audio content per device.19%
- Running AI on the device itself requires more memory and storage than prior generations, so each upgrade cycle demands more of both. · Micron TechnologyIt supplies the memory chips that AI-capable devices need in greater quantities than prior generations., Western DigitalIt supplies the storage that AI-capable devices need in greater quantities than the machines they replace., SandiskIts flash memory ships inside phones, and AI-capable upgrades mean more storage content per device.16%
- A small number of foundries make nearly all advanced chips regardless of which brand sells the device, so they win on volume across the entire ecosystem. · Taiwan SemiconductorIt manufactures the advanced chips for Apple, Qualcomm, AMD, and others, so it collects on demand from every brand in the device ecosystem., ASML HoldingIt is the only company selling the machines that chipmakers use to produce the advanced silicon every AI-capable device requires.14%
