The idea
I believe AI will meaningfully speed up and cut the cost of drug discovery, so I built a pure play on the companies designing drugs with AI from the ground up rather than the big pharma firms buying the tools. It splits between small-molecule platforms and protein and antibody design, with a slice held back in cash to add after sharp drops. These are early, volatile businesses, so I'm watching trial results and partnership news closely, and I'd reconsider the whole thesis if the broader field's strongest proof points start to stall.
What it owns
- These companies use artificial intelligence to identify disease targets and design pill-based drugs in a fraction of the traditional development time. · Recursion PharmaceuticalsIt has the largest pipeline of drugs discovered through artificial intelligence, making its trial results a direct test of whether AI accelerates drug discovery., SchrödingerIt sells drug design software built on physics and artificial intelligence while also developing its own drugs, so it benefits whether external partners or its own programs demonstrate faster discovery., Relay TherapeuticsIt designs pills using computer modeling of protein movement, representing artificial intelligence-first drug design from inception, and its viability rests on solid trial results from lead programs.47%
- These companies use artificial intelligence to design protein and antibody drugs, which represent the newer and faster-growing segment of the pharmaceutical field. · Generate BiomedicinesIt uses generative artificial intelligence to design proteins and antibodies from scratch, and its success depends on whether AI-designed drugs progress through trials faster than conventional approaches., AbCellera BiologicsIt combines artificial intelligence with fast laboratory screening to discover antibodies for partners and for its own development pipeline, relying on sustained partner engagement and advancing internal programs., AbsciIt pairs generative artificial intelligence with proprietary laboratory data to design antibodies, representing a pure artificial intelligence-first approach on the protein side, and requires continued trial progress and sufficient capital.38%
