The idea
I believe AI memorials, talking avatars and voice clones built from photos and messages, become a normal part of how families remember people, and the companies positioned to benefit aren't the small AI apps but whoever holds the raw material or sits with families at the moment of loss. So I split the portfolio between big tech platforms sitting on decades of photos and voicemails, and the funeral homes, photo storage apps, and voice and avatar tech companies that could actually feel the shift in their numbers.
What it owns
- These companies hold most families' photos, voicemails and messages, which is the raw material every AI memorial is built from. · Apple Inc.It stores a lifetime of iPhone photos, videos, voice memos and messages in its cloud service, providing the raw material needed to build a talking memorial from a tap., Alphabet Inc.It maintains one of the world's largest personal archives through its photos, messaging, video and voice services, combined with AI capabilities to turn that data into voice or chatbot memorials., Microsoft CorporationIt has patented technology to build a chatbot of a specific person from their messages and recordings, and owns platforms where personal words accumulate daily., Amazon.com, Inc.It has shown Alexa reading in a dead relative's voice from a short clip, and Alexa is already in kitchens where families would talk to a memorial.37%
- Funeral homes and memorial makers are with the family at the moment of loss and could sell a talking memorial the way they sell headstones today. · Service Corporation InternationalIt is the biggest funeral operator in the US and could sell an avatar next to the casket and headstone when families plan a goodbye., Matthews International CorporationIt makes bronze grave markers and memorial products, and a talking memorial linked from a headstone is a natural next product for it., Carriage Services, Inc.It runs funeral homes and cemeteries and makes much of its money on extras sold to grieving families, where an AI memorial package would fit naturally.27%
- Consumer storage and photo apps hold years of personal memories and are well placed to turn them into memorial products. · Dropbox, Inc.It is where many people keep old photos, recordings and documents, the files a family would hand over to build a memorial., Snap Inc.It saves years of Memories for each user and gives everyone a Bitmoji avatar, which is a head start on a likeness a family could keep.13%
- A small slice in the few listed companies that make the voice cloning and conversational tech these memorials run on. · SoundHound AI, Inc.It is one of the few listed companies selling conversational voice AI, the tech that would make a memorial actually talk back.4%
