AI Cyber Defense Wave

The idea
I believe AI is making it cheap to find software flaws, so attacks multiply and companies are forced to keep raising security spending for years. I'm betting most of that spending flows to the big all-in-one security platforms that can sell a whole protection stack in one deal, so they lead the basket at under half the portfolio. Around them sit smaller names in vulnerability scanning, identity, network defense, and recovery, plus a broad sector ETF for ballast, spread across 18 holdings so no single company can make or break it.
What will be bought
- Large vendors bundling firewalls, cloud security and operations together are capturing the wave of new spending on AI-driven defense. · Palo Alto NetworksIt bundles firewalls, cloud security and operations into one platform, exactly matching the unified defense approach that consolidates spending., CrowdStrike HoldingsIt leads in fighting AI-driven attacks and expands its platform as customers move more of their security onto its subscription service., ZscalerIt routes company traffic through its cloud to inspect and block threats, a platform model that becomes more valuable as attacks multiply., FortinetIt pushes from firewall leadership into a full networking-plus-security platform as customers consolidate spending., Check Point Software TechnologiesIt offers a complete security stack at lower cost than faster-growing competitors, holding value if its revenue keeps growing and customer losses stay manageable.44%
- When AI tools accelerate vulnerability discovery, companies need scanning and flaw-finding software to locate and patch weaknesses before attackers do. · SentinelOneIt positions as an AI-first challenger to larger platforms in blocking attacks and stopping rogue AI agents, growing through recurring revenue and competitive deal sizes., Tenable HoldingsIt scans companies for software flaws, and AI is finding those flaws faster, which means more vulnerabilities to assess and more demand for its scanning services., Varonis SystemsIt shows companies where sensitive data sits and who can access it, growing more critical when AI tools and attackers can search through systems at speed., QualysIt finds and tracks unpatched flaws across company machines, a steady subscription business that directly benefits from accelerating vulnerability discovery., Rapid7It offers a smaller, lower-cost way to own vulnerability finding and security operations, staying relevant while recurring revenue turns from declining to growing.16%
- Stolen credentials remain the easiest attack path, and AI makes phishing and impersonation far more convincing, so login protection and identity control draw urgent spending. · OktaIts identity platform sits in the path of new spending because stolen logins remain the easiest entry point and AI agents themselves now need controlled access., SailPointIt controls who and what can access which systems, a job growing more complex as companies deploy AI agents that need their own access permissions., Gen DigitalIt sells consumer identity and fraud protection as AI makes scams and impersonation far more convincing, holding value if paying customer growth accelerates.11%
- Attacks arrive at websites and network edges first, and these companies block threats before they reach internal systems. · CloudflareIt stands in front of millions of websites to block attacks before they land, capturing growth when critical security flaws push sites toward paid protection., Akamai TechnologiesIts large network absorbs attack traffic floods, and security has become its main growth driver as it shifts from older content delivery services.8%
- Successful attacks drive demand for backup and recovery systems that let companies restore operations after ransomware and breaches. · RubrikIt helps companies restore operations after ransomware penetrates defenses, and more successful attacks mean more demand for recovery services., Commvault SystemsIt repositions its established backup and restore business around cyber recovery as more successful attacks drive demand for rapid restoration.7%
- A broad cybersecurity fund moves with overall sector spending rather than individual company performance, providing stability if specific bets falter. · First Trust NASDAQ Cybersecurity ETFIt holds a broad basket of cybersecurity stocks, moving with overall sector spending to provide steadier exposure to the entire defense wave.4%
